Gamesradar- "Skyrim is about exploration. It’s about crafting your own tale in a massive, sprawling open world, filled with dangerous dragons and hundreds of hours of content.
Yes, yes, yes, Skyrim is great. Skyrim is wonderful. Skyrim is the best open-world-blahblahblah. Whatever. It’s time we look at the things that aren’t amazing about Skyrim – and they’re plentiful."
Not only are we awarding a game that was released 1/2 finished for 1/3 of the available consumers we are praising an RPG for failing so many things.
1) Main Quest sucks: Seriously, Alduin is probably one of the worst final bosses I have ever seen. I beat him in under 30 seconds. Not to mention that almost every character in the main quest was unlikable. Also, you are supposed to be this great dragonborne, but no one gives a crap about you.I just saved your soul from being eaten by the red eyes black dragon... and no one gives a crap. It is underwhelming, the main quest feels like you accomplished nothing
2) Guild quests follow the same story structure:
-Join guild
-Discover new power
-Investigate new power
-Someone in guild betrays you
-Leader is killed
-Take vengance for the guild
-Become new Guild leader
Not only do they follow this pattern, but narrative coherence is ruined. It seems like with every guild I must serve someone in the after life, but I have one soul... so what happens? Is my soul split into multiple pieces? Does Sithis get me on thurdays, and Nocternal gets it on fridays?
3)None of the characters are interesting. Seriously, name one that is. The only character I liked was Parthanax, only because he sounded like Optimus Prime. Thats it. And you don't feel attachment to any of these characters because they just have the same lines. Plus, you will forget most of their names just because after their short quest, you will forget about them. Please, tell me how deep a character Lydia is,and that she was not a simple packmule for your stuff.
4)Dumbed down RPG mechanics. Combat boils down to this floaty meele combat, and spells and you do not feel that powerful just because of the lack of feedback you get.
5) The game will just feel like a fetch quest after a while. You do not even remember the reason why you even get some stuff. I found the elder scroll while doing a mission for the mages guild, and then Parthanax will send me to go get it. Thats what the game boils down to, just get this thing for this guy.The game feels like it is giving you chores. Seriously, during the VGA award predictions a girl from Machinima said that, and she was excited. Now based on my former comments i hate the misogynistic insults that are thrown towards female gamers, but that statement made me yell go back to the kitchen. Im not proud, but if you are going to do chores... why pay 60 bucks for it?
6)Dragon battles are so random it is ridiculous. Im going to collect flowers for this Khajit.. and I now have to fight one blood dragon, one ancient dragon and one frost dragon all at the same time.. not to mention the fact the game is moving at 1 frame per second.
7)Glitches... need I say more. Hell most of the discussions I had with friends about Skyrim is not about oh I did this cool thing... It goes more like what glitch did you get... Thats the most memorable part of the game, the glitches
Seriously with all this, the gaming press still showered Skyrim with accolade upon accolade it was insulting that we are praising broken games when games like demon souls, Skyward sword, Portal 2, Uncharted 3, Batman arkham city, deus ex human revolution, L.A Noire(it tried something new, no one can deny that) are all spat on for this game. Its insulting.
The AIAS... this "prestigious" not only gives the game best story, but best game design and direction.
For all these glitches? For giving the middle finger to a 1/3 of its consumers?
VGA Bethesda Best Studio- BULLSH*T
The only reason I bought Skyrim is because of how much I liked Fallout 3, and that was the GOTY edition I bought 2 years after the game released -_- Should have known better
I refuse to trust many critics after the atrocity that was Skyrim... I bought the game on my own choices, they did not influence me. But the amount of praise our media gave to an unfinished product is so baffling it is insulting to both players and many game makers.
Our media is a joke, Gamesradar who also gave Skyrim GOTY.. is now posting this article. Like I said, our media is a joke
Edit: I noticed most of these flaws because I did not play this: http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Pause the video every second for a more accurate depiction of what I got
Oh, and if anyone wants to argue with those points I made above..go for it. I have a lot more, but I am to lazy to type them all, and also I can validate all of them
I'm not saying Skyrim is a bad game. I, in fact, think it's a good game, but it's not a great game, ESPECIALLY without mods. I only recently started turning it on every now and then as opposed to not playing it at all. The thing is, after the time I've spent with Skyrim compared to the amount of time I've spent with just F3 shows that Skyrim just doesn't have quite the spark that game did. Obsidian upped F3 in that department, too, as I haven't stopped playing NV since it was released.
I think Skyrim's major problem is that it isn't a very good role-playing game. It isn't. Angry Joe says it's the RPG that he'll compare all others to, numerous gaming sites said the same thing then gave it GotY and FOR WHAT?
I'll tell you what it is. Forgive me for sounding a bit like a troll and mentioning FNV again, but FNV is obviously an upgrade from F3. It had more features, it was, believe it or not, less buggy than F3 was, it was more loyal to Fallout lore, as expected, and it was just a better RPG. Metacritic score? 84. Fallout 3 MC score? 91. It's just Bethesda's name and money...
*sniff sniff* I smell bullshit.
I despise how gamers who just can't give their opinion without throwing spoilers into the comments section.
Completely unnecessary..I you hate a game just say you hated it.
Doesn't matter..Elder Scrolls is phenomial on the 360. Let the haters hate..lol..it won't mean anything.
Evil
It gets your website a whole bunch of hits to do so.

"We were going to think of a fifth reason, but then we took an arrow to the knee
Skyrim is responsible for the “I was going to blank, but then I took an arrow to the knee” "
Lol they got the meme all wrong.
It should be ''I used to be (...) Like you, but then i toke an arrow to the knee''
Lets not kid ourselves there are points in which they are correct. The meme is the stupidest thing ever.
Gamesradar is a cheekily humorous site, and this content falls right in with that.
Gamesradar is kind of like the show "Cheers." You have to know the characters of the actors and the show itself to really see why what they say is funny.
I wish for a game with the exploration of Skyrim but the combat Of Dark souls, next gen im sure
you do the equation.
You think think it's just the save file bug/lag glitch that's the only problem? lol
You don't have to play the PS3 version to hate it. There are many people who played it on either 360 or PC(as I did) and dislike it.
Average combat, forgettable story, bland characters and animations, fetch quests, things you do don't matter and no one in the game cares or notices, other bugs and glitches, it's boring.
That's vague. Many as in 5? 15? 150? 1,500? 15,000?
I can say, many many many more people considered it GOTY.
And since you can't please everybody, it makes sense that some people wouldn't like Skyrim.
2) Its not very good ( like most bethesda games this gen)
3) Everything they listed was correct, it is buggy boring and broken
After a generation of linear titles, shooters, rpgs, etc. It was nice to see a game like Skyrim. The races were unique, character creation was fun, leveling up was done well and so were the skill tree's.
As for bugs, I only experienced a few. The worst was slow down during a specific mission (forgot which one) and some freezing during the Dark Brotherhood quest line. I was playing on 360 if it matters.
I dunno, I really loved the game. I thought Bethesda crafted an amazing world. Vampires, Werewolves, Daedrea, the Septims, Dragons, etc. The lore in Elder Scrolls is just so great, and it's great to see references to previous Elder Scroll games. And some of the quest were so great, assassinating Kings, Summoning a dragon & laying siege, and learning the shouts.
And guess what, I play it on my PS3...
The game is a broken boring mess. It shouldn't matter that it's only REALLY broken on one platform. It's still only a little broken on all platforms...but of course the raging fanboys will tell you that the game is perfect.
Never mind how laughably imbalanced the game is. How many dull ass caves have you ran through that had an easy boss but an inexplicably difficult WTF Draugr 2 thirds the way through.
How many times has your dumb as rocks companion set off some trap that sends you to your most recent quick save?
What about the worst steath mechanic in all of gaming?
Wait...place a barrel over someone's head and rape them in broad daylight? OK....
Skyrim is terrible. I dare any of you PC Skyrim players to uninstall all of those game fixing mods and play the game Bethesda shipped broken and tell me how it deserved GoTY?
"12 of the sexiest girls in the music biz"
and theres 24 pages to click through. no thanks.
i traded it in because it was very repetitive and i couldnt stop playing the game and pick it up a few wks after. i had forgotten everything i was doing and it was hard to pick it back up.
so to gamestop it went.
I remember being told there was gonna be a BRAND NEW ENGINE, then what do we get? The same engine that still looks like shit and has aged like milk.
On paper that all sounds well and good. In practice it's all rather underwhelming.
I got it for the 360 and hardly came across many bugs. Then again, I put about 20 hours in, max. Cause I got bored. There are games that have better exploration, better combat, better stories and characters and use of magic. Sure, it's all crammed into this one game but it doesn't do any of these things particulary well.

I loved the game, but I had a few complaints. Anything you spend that much time with gets you thinking about what might have been.
-CadDad
They clearly don't give a $#!t about PS3 owners.
Bring on the Xbox DLC bugthesda you lazy ...&%$#@*
Now if you got Dark Souls combat + Skyrim's world? Sign me up. As it stands now I gotta agree with the article, the game gets boring after a while.
Edit: Oh forgot to mention the battle system...yeah the post above mine should explain...
It was a total gong show once my save file hit 11+MB, freezing every 10-20 minutes and a framerate capped around 8-10fps. I've never seen anything like it.
The Playstation version was not NOT fit for store shelves and I'm gobsmacked Bethesda even got away with it, let alone winning GOTY and motherfucking STUDIO OF THE YEAR (of all things)
And before you tell me that it's nothing short of amazing on PC so what? I chose the PS3 version and that's that. Bethesda shouldn't have made such a shameful port if they couldn't handle it in the first place...
