Staff Viewpoint: Japanese Games Relevance In The Industry

Stinkerbri, the co-owner of WiiWareWave website, personally prefers Japanese games due to their creative story telling, beautiful art design, and their games must be fun approach which many western developers abandon in favor of looking realistic. Sure some of those games are fun, but the fact that the industry indicates that Japanese games aren't fresh and reuse gameplay elements yet western games release many of the same games with nothing new other than a new story and new characters. (Industry, Wii, Xenoblade Chronicles)

Xenoblade Chronicles is an excellent game, and will hopefully start a trend of quality that will put Japanese gaming back on the map. The story itself is not the most unique story I have played through, but the world map is definitely a 1st. The Story may end up surprising me later on due to the fact that I have spent countless hours leveling up, grinding old school jrpg style. Trying to give my squad a better chance at successful boss encounters later.

With that said Xenoblade truely has lived up to the hype and offers the greatest jrpg experience so far this generation. Exclusively on the Nintendo Wii entertainment system.

Even though the title has not hit my region yet, I have very high hoped for Nintendo Wii entertainment system AAA exclusive The Last Story. The worlds dont seem as expansive as Xenoblade Chronicles, but the characters look to hold up well. The Story from my angle also seems to be of quality to please the millions and millions of Nintendo Elite gamers. Things seem to be looking up for Nintendo and the quality control of traditional Japanese gaming.

Nintendo Wii entertainment system exclusives Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandoras Tower all prove that with a great art style, system specs are not as important as lead to be believed. Each of the games mentioned are beautiful, and I hope other Japanese developers embrace the artistic way of game development more often.

Even the Nintendo 3DS entertainment system sports plenty amazing looking Japanese games with middle class graphic capability. A majority of the beautiful games seen in this video are Japanese titles.

With all of that said, I believe Japanese Games Relevance In The Industry is at a generation high. The Nintendo Wii entertainment system is living proof that when AAA quality experiences come along that stay true to their roots. People will answer with praise, and with cash. Have a blessed day and happy gaming.

More people should give the Wii console a chance
Don't let your fanboyic (made up word) pride, ruin your chances of playing quality titles.

I just recently purchased a wii just to play Xenoblade and The Last Story. I was so starved for a good JRPG that i had to buy a console for 2 games.

Good decision
There's also, Arc Rise Fantasia (Good title, but horrible Voice overs), Tales of Symphonia 2 (there's no exploration, but combat is fun).

There's a lot more games you'd enjoy on the Wii, so you shouldn't hold back on just those two titles you've purchase.

you should never be starved this gen, theres so much more than ever

I don't like the Wii controller... that's why i skipped out on buying the console....might give the Wii-U a chance since the controller won't be built around motion gaming...

not all wii games are dependent on motion gameplay.

Japanese games are great. I don't debate their relevancy in the industry, and I agree that Xenoblade is a breath of fresh air into a sub-genre that has seen a decline over the past decade or so. But I absolutely despise this mentality:

"Stinkerbri, the co-owner of WiiWareWave website, personally prefers Japanese games due to their creative story telling, beautiful art design, and their games must be fun approach which many western developers abandon in favor of looking realistic."

It's as ridiculous as me saying something like: "all Japanese games are just anime-inspired genre tropes."

Why is it that the West is DEFINED by their genre tropes, yet Japan is given a fairer shake with their "creative storytelling, beautiful art design, and their games must be fun," as if:

A) There are little to no Japanese games that DON'T exhibit those qualities

and

B) There are little to no Western games that DO exhibit those qualities

It's so ridiculous. And I'm not pointing fingers. Western game fans do the same thing with Japanese games. Both sides of the pond are responsible for a wealth of great games and a wealth of crappy generic cash-ins.

Stinkerbri here: I didn't say all western games aren't good or all Japanese games are good I merely voiced my opinion that I feel Japanese games on average tend to have more unique gameplay and better storytelling, but I also said that western games are often good, but they have a less unique feel overall to their Japanese counterparts, but remember this is just an opinion NOT a fact. ;)
