DirectX 11 to come in 2009

"We found out that Microsoft plans to finish up DirectX 11 in late 2008 or early 2009. This means that it will move rather quickly from DirectX 10 and 10.1, but it might take some time for hardware to go the same way.

We still don't know many things about the new API, but at least we have the rough plan that it is coming. It is clear that 2009 will be the year of DirectX 11, and the way the market works we should see some good DirectX 11 games by 2010.

Yeah that is a quick transition..

Perhaps DirectX 11 will be compatible with XP also? That would be very good for Microsoft lol. Cause forcing people to buy Vista doesn't seem to be working very well.

How are they forcing anyone to switch? By not making the product anymore? Because it's just unheard of for a company to phase out an older model product in favor of the new one...

No, Because they refused to update XP with DirectX 10 because they want Vista to sell obviously.

Which is a smart idea..Only if Vista actually had become a hit among people.

So it pisses of the millions of people who stick with XP and get screwed out of DX10.

Fair enough, but trust me when i say the difference is so very small on current games.

There is no need for another iteration of DirectX with a few little (hardly noticeable) improvements, IMO. Hell, even DX9 is not maxed out just yet, not to mention DX10 or 10.1...
