VGutopia Review- Kinect Star Wars

Star Wars is one of the most iconic franchises in history, so has unsurprisingly spawned tons of movies, tv shows, books, and more, making video game adaptations of the franchise no surprise to anyone. For the most part they are hit and miss, but was Kinect Star Wars a hit or a miss for the franchise? Let’s take a look in this review. (Kinect Star Wars, Xbox 360) 5/10

I got a deal on this game for $30 new... I wanted to try it, but didn't want to play full price. I know the reviews say the game is mediocre, but I don't really care. I get my copy next Monday. Hope I find something to like on that disc.

The biggest thing is look at the instructions in the help section when you pause the game. Most of the reviews are done by people that didnt so they say it didnt work and blame the kinect sensor. This review is bull, they said it requires large movements and it loses you.... if that happens either you are playing it to crazy and jumping out of your playzone (this means you are doing it wrong) or your kinect needs to be calibrated.

When you play it think creatively, the force very versatile you just have to figure out ways to use it. Some of the most under used ways is force push to stop an enemy attack, and attack and force push combos. Also learn the power moves. The game had really deep mechanics, it seems most people are just scratching the surface and stopping there. Just read the instructions it will make sense.

So you're seriously suggesting that NONE of the reviewers knew what they were doing or did not read the instructions?

Sorry, but that's delusional. 99% of reviews complain about control issues.

Silent

I wish I was delusional that would make things a lot easier. I can accept being wrong but I cant accept straight complete utter bs served on a plate and them telling me it's steak.

The problem I have isnt the scores even though I feel it ranks better but the reasons and the reasoning behind the scores is my problem. 99% of the reviewers complain about the controls but what do they say? 90% of them are vague the rest are lies. I have seen so much mis information that I cant even start to tell how much false have been spread. It would be easier if you asked the question and I just answer. Actually if you read the reviews closely you will find very little consistency some say the pod racing doesnt work other say its fine some say the combat is fun other say its suck some say rancor mode is boring others say its the best part of the game.

It makes me ask the question why are they lying, why are they not really pushing the game to see what can really be done. They dont mention any of the extremely cool stuff the game does. the controls are fine you just need to really use them.

I want to know what the problem is... I learned the easiest way to spot bs is when someone tells you something is wrong but doesnt tell you how to fix it. And thats something from all these professional reviewers didnt give at all... a way to make what was wrong right. That normally means they didnt try and just gave some BS. But look how much people ate it up.... thats what scary so few people were like "let me see if this is really true" and just accepted it so easy.

Sorry, I tend to believe the dozens and dozens of professional reviewers who mentioned many problems with this game over one person who mentions no problems at all with this game.

I have not played KSW yet, but I know that most reviewers do not spend much time reviewing Kinect games and their expectations on how the games should work do not match what the developers try to implement. I find that often the developers don't properly train on how to play the game and leave too much to discovery.

And that Strongman is the problem. I am not saying the game doesnt have any problems... that would be a lie but we cant discuss the real problems with so much false and lies surrounding it.

I am so tempted to doing a video debunking these "issues" and "problems" (I am a multimeida guy) but I'm dont want to if it doesnt do any good and people just seem so happy to just accept these lies as truth. But I would need a real problem, for instance I'm sure you havent played the game but what is a real problem that you see.

See there are things to fix in this game but the stuff they talk about isnt it. Truthfully I think this games was rushed and is a small piece of what they were actually developing. Here is an example of how talking about all these lies have buried the real questions. Pretty much everything we saw from e3 over the years, and scenes they showed in old trailers arent even in the game. The graphics are very inconsistent, some parts are very polished others look like pre beta drafts.
Honestly KSW biggest innovation is the response time....there has been other kinect games that actually run circles around it as far as innovation(kinect Rush). And I would have loved the game to be more like one big full adventure instead of the mini game format. Even though mini game is kind of mis leading seeing that the Jedi destiny is a fully functioning game. Hopefully they will bring some more content with DLC.

Edonus-give us your personal impression of how "deep" the game is. I'm assuming you didn't encounter any of the issues stated in the reviews of this game.

I have used the kinect since launch so it is not foreign to me at all. There are a bunch of modes and the reviews have been very bad at laying them out and each one has features and things that have just gone un mentioned. As for the issues that you encounter are are 95% of the time self induced, that is the first thing you have understand. If something isnt working or being read you are probably doing something wrong.
As far as deep goes some thing are deeper than others but almost all of them are deeper than the reviews have stated.
My favorite example is the combat in Jedi destiny. You have a sidestep and a side flip and an overhead flip and a duck. Unlike standard games you need to get use to really looking at your enemy and their postures. Your saber is not just one hand you can use it two handed and it adds power to your swings (makes fighting big droids easier). The force is independent, you can attack and block while using the force at the same time. I have seen people do creative things with the force like pick an enemy up bring them in to them cut them down. If you are quick enough when the enemy throws a grenade you can pick it up and throw it at him with the force. When they shoot missles you can force push them out away. You have several force powered attacks like a saber slam the the over head flip, also a jumping frontal leg swing. The force can be used to break defenses and disrupt the enemy and combo attack. The issues occur when people get overwhelmed and lose their focus. They jump out of the play area and dont make moves crisp enough to be read. That is the beauty of kinect too me.... it put you in the game. Another thing I see people get lost in is that they let what they want to see dictate what actually is. Everyone wants a 1:1 lightsaber... this isnt that but that doesnt mean it doesnt work. The tracking is actually very good but its not meant for you to draw circles on droids chests, its made for function. Look at swinging the your arm like a specific button press. When you swing from left to right thats a button that prompts and animation, same thing when you do a figure 8 its like tapping a button to quick(like Chung lIs kick). Do moves to cause the action let action take and do another just like a controller. the angles you swing in are important as well they vary your attacks and cause more damage. That is just one part of one section of the game and there more but you just have to experiment.
