Girls Discover Joys of Gaming

Women are taking over the internet, with more girls than men playing online games.

A survey found one in 10 "game-hers" rated virtual reality games as better than shopping.

Cracking cryptic codes was the number one pastime, followed by Lara Croft-style action role playing and brain training games.

The poll, by zylom.com, claimed 18.7 million women are hooked on internet games and puzzles compared to 18.5 million men and in the North West a staggering 81 per cent of women play games and puzzles, according to the survey. (Culture, Industry, Nintendo DS, Wii)

Every girl gamer I know either owns the damn DS, or the Wii. If none of those two, they play Counter Strike: Source.

My wife loves to play PC games, PS2/PS3 games with my son and PSP games. Previously my wife is not a gamer until she got hold of the PS2 controller. :)

Yawn
This is simply more "girl power, female gamers are cool and not geeks like guys are!" rubbish courtesy of the Evening Telegraph.

You know I am kind of right on this, us guys who like are videogames are labeled as geeks, loosers etc but women who play games are portrayed as "cool".

This isn't new
I know plenty of girls in Metal Gear Online and COD4 (only online games I ever invested time in) that actually had skill. And yes they were girls and not guys acting as girls because I knew them in real life. Not to mention the girls that are fans of RPG's like Final Fantasy.

My mum sat and played Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles with me over Christmas...she's 50. Saying that she usually spends most of her time playing FreeCell on the PC.
