From banning protestors to calling gamers homophobes, EA knows how to make an impression. Though not the kind you would take back home to your mother.
EA Sports should just stick to sports games. And even that gets a little sketchy.
Activision is by far the worst... For all EA's bad business decisions at least some of their games are still fun to play. Activision, on the other hand, really is just about milking gamers and they ruin their games in the process.
I've stopped buying EA games now, last one being Crysis 2 some will say my loss (maybe) yes I was looking forward to Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, the new MOH Warfigter but I just dont think Origin is worth its hassle. Why the hell can I not play the singleplayer without online connection as mines is rather poor at times, this is just stupid because I would have bought said games look like we both lose. (shame)
At one point I owned MW3 for the PS3 and 360 ( don't ask why ) but here's my point. Both are hooked through the same internet connection, plugged into the same power strip, into the same TV but one I can play online for free and the other I couldn't. That is unless I paid to play. Heck with that anymore.
I can't say I am going to stop buying anything EA pushes out. They have had some great games and will continue to. Good thing I am not forced to use Origin, so that to me is a non-issue. As for as customer support, I buy my games in a store so again, I don't really need them. Not sure what the fuss is about. Lots of other companies that are worse then EA in my opinion. Like gas companies....
Or Bank Of America who pretty much single-handedly caused the economic collapse. Whom EA beat in the final.
Bank of America hardly caused the financial crisis. They just bought Countrywide Financial, which was one of the huge mortgage firms making shitting loans right before it started. You can hardly pin the business practices of Countrywide on BAC
Calling a spade a spade is grounds for worst company? If you're a homophobe and someone calls you a homophobe then you simply had it coming. I still greatly dislike EA for their other under-handed practices though.
You know the one thing that I was always concerned about with EA is taking away developers creative freedom.. I thought they were going to ruin Bioware, as it turns out they are actually giving them the creative freedom they want... But now people are upset about that!? I actually support EA's decision to back up the developers in creating a game the way they want it created... If anything people should be upset with Bioware; either way people should not encourage big publisher censorship on their smaller studios.. We all know that will go down a dark path.
The DLC on-disk is something more and more publishers are doing... but it's still an AWEFUL thing.
Hehe. Aweful sounds like its full of awe. But i get what you're saying and I agree with you. People trying to make a quick buck while scamming people.
Great article. The whole banning this is just stupid. Especially the Origin thing. Sorry, but people have the right to mod their single player game. They paid the money for it. Sure, cheating online is wrong, and they should be banned for that. But if you're playing alone then they have no right to take that away from you. As for the on-disc DLC, that's just pure garbage. And it's pathetic to see how many companies are going that route. I'm sorry, but if it's done and on the disc, then it should be in the game. Locking it just to make an extra buck is just greedy and underhanded and no way to treat the customers supporting your company.
most gamers *are* homophobes, so... they're right on that point.
I disagree other then all the Xbox live kids yelling "Fag" and "GAY" I think gamers are more socially tolerant.
I'm sure anyone with a internet connection and a mic will scream fag and gay including psn kids and PC gamers. So only labeling 360 kids only shows your ignorance
To be honest I always laughed at the "worst company in America" label EA now have and thought it was way over the top however this is the first I've heard of Origin account bans.. if it's true that gamers were having their entire account banned for trivial things like single player mods is in my opinion, worthy grounds of such a title as worst company in America. I feel sorry for all those who have spent a lot of money on Origin only to have it practically stolen just because they decided to make a small modification to their single player experience.
For as far as I'm aware, the people banned from Origin were those that launched personal threats against developers. Well deserved bans if you ask me. Cheaters may have been banned as well. I use single player mods, and Origin fully supports single player mods for the games available on it. Most games even have their own dedicated modding sites hosted by EA, so a ban because of a single player mod? Highly unlikely.
Boy some writers really don't know what to write about nowadays in order to grab some cheap hits. Most silly, biased and misleading article I read in a while.
There's only one reason why EA won. People are stupid. Anyone who thinks EA even belongs in the top 20 of this discussion has a tenuous grip on reality.
Terrible article, it does not take into account the horrible things many other companies do. I for one do not think EA's practises are that different from any other publisher. If you throw death threats at developers, you sure as hell deserve to be banned from Origin. Day One DLC? Name one company that has never done it? Doesn't even matter if you can, fact is - it's difficult to stay afloat in the industry, and these companies have to make a profit. Fact is, EA isn't that bad a company. They produce the best quality games of all the major third party publishers, they support innovation with games like Mirror's Edge, and offer a great environment for people to work in.
Sorry mate but I think you're looking at it with fan goggles. Granted EA aren't the worst company in gaming, there is a LOT of room for improvement imho. You talk about it being difficult to stay afloat in this industry.. while for many companies this is true but not for a company that has pretty much monopolized the sports game genre. I also disagree with them producing the best quality games. I honestly think they produce great quality games but they could easily take the time to make them better and actually listen to their fans some more especially with their annual sports releases. Mirrors Edge is indeed a great game and one of the stand out innovative gems of this generation however how long ago was that released? It doesn't exactly hold any weight anymore in a "EA is innovative" debate because to be perfectly honest, they're really not that innovative. Now I probably sound a bit bitter but tbh the three biggest games for me last year were all EA published and all of them left me disappointed in some way. Fifa 12 while good, EA completely shunned their clubs community with hackers still running rampant ruining the experience. Battlefield 3 while a great game, left PC fans wanting more with EA/DICE giving the middle finger to the modding community.. the exact same community that still helps keep BF1942 afloat to this day. Then finally SWTOR.. that game clearly wasn't ready for release last year yet EA were scared to release it around the same time as Diablo 3 so pushed the release forward. To be fair, I could write a much longer article on all the mistakes EA are making and tbh, to EA's credit it's because I'm passionate about their games but I still think they are failing people like me who have been loyal followers of some of their franchises for a long time.
"Sorry mate but I think you're looking at it with fan goggles. Granted EA aren't the worst company in gaming, there is a LOT of room for improvement imho." Never said there wasn't room for improvement, but that's true for any company. "I also disagree with them producing the best quality games." I didn't state that as an opinion. That's based on actual data derived from metacritic. Average reviews for EA games score higher than other companies. " how long ago was that released?" Doesn't matter, it shows that there is leeway for companies to be innovative under EA, a risky business. As for the games you mentioned, I can't say that SWTOR felt rushed. It's been in development for years, and it felt as quite a polished product for a MMO. To be fair, you could write an article about pretty much any company outlining all the mistakes they make, but really whether or not you see it that way depends on how you answer the question: "Is the cup half full, or half empty?".
Should've been Capcom or Activision
I'm sure they forgot to add in there how EA tried to do a hostile take over of 2k games, closing critterion games, blocking other football games because they want a monopoly on the license, rehashing the same Madden game every year, using origin to spy on your PC and delete file as they see fit, and much much more. EA had earned their award in spades. With capcom giving a strong push for next years nomination (which they are doing a stand up job at) and activision trying hard to catch up.
ea are greedy scum, end of.
