Why the Halo Movie Failed to Launch

It had a script. It had the backing of two major film studios. It had the support of Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson.

Everything seemed like it was clicking into place for the Halo movie before it abruptly collapsed, and you can blame Microsoft for that, according to writer Jamie Russell. Writing in his new book Generation Xbox: How Videogames Invaded Hollywood, Russell says the project fell apart because Microsoft was unfamiliar with the glitzy world of moviemaking. Because every thing about the movie has to be perfect and accurate.

Maybe in the year 2020 the technology will be able to make this movie but not now.

I agree. But I don't think video games should ever be turn into movies. Look at Doom, Prince of Persia, Mario Bros.

why is not now? we see a movies a lot harder than halo being filmed in 2000

He means technologically. But I think the tech is more adequate nowadays.

Avatar is a step in the right direction to make the Halo movie but even Avatar still felt like the tech was not yet ready.

The Avatar world felt too CGI'ish and I felt like I was more in a computer generated planet than a real planet.

Movies like Underworld and Transformers make me glad that the Halo movie has not been made yet.

Underworld is awesome

Hollywood butchers game movies because they know nothing about games, only how the way they do things works....and never to deviate from the norm. I have high hopes for the assassins creed movie because it's not going though the normal channels

Smart move by MS, don't want to cheapen one of their most valuable (only?) video game IPs'

They should just make a CGI Movie. They could get the voice actors from the game and make a story.

Tey could just follow the stories from the books. Well written and engaging and the chief has a personality in them and he does talk a lot and give orders. Also the books are more realistic with a single plasma bolt being able to melt through spartan armor (fall of reach, spartan is killed after arm is melted off) and there is a huge sense of desperation. Where as in the games the spartans are the ultimate warrior and u wonder why they are losing the war...

Movie wise they need to keep lore intact but follow the books for story and combat.

I would rather not have the movie made, especially if its going to be made wrong.

did anyone remember that halo: reach live action commercial? whoever made that, should direct the halo movie instead.

Why not talk to the folks over at Marvel/Disney or why not make it themselves, then negotiate a deal like George Lucas did with Empire Strikes back. where he retain a ton of the proceeds & give the distributor a % of gross.
