How to Feel About Quantic Dream’s Kara

Back when the game developers’ conference was all the rage, Quantic Dream showed an extremely interesting tech demo they called Kara. At a conference such as this tech demo’s are all over the place but this year the one that stood out among the crowded circle was Kara. Quantic Dream, also the creators of Heavy Rain, showed all of what they had in this tech demo that demonstrated how they were trying to capture the true feeling of human drama from what they could exactly achieve through Heavy Rain. As PlayStation 3 owners should know, Heavy Rain has probably been one of the most dramatic games out on the market so having the creators of that dark drama try and up the ante is something that seems nearly impossible. Quantic Dream proved the impossibilities as incorrect with the tech demo of Kara... (Culture, Kara, Next-Gen, PS3)

I'm not sure if you saw the interview with David Cage after the tech demo was revealed but he actually said that it gives clues to their next project and shows off the power of their new engine.

The PS3 has so much power left in it...I mean the graphics for a 5 year old console is amazing.

Yeah i did see that but i mean after seeing the demo i want that exact game x) i suppose im just being a bit greedy but it was just that good! the PS3 does have so much left in it. im just so impressed by how they keep bettering it and bettering it; and thats comnig from a die hard xbox fan lol.

This could be an awesome game.

Heavy Rain started out as a tech demo in a kitchen and then turned into one of the best PS3 exclusives.

So who knows, Kara could turn out to be another brilliant game from QD.

"How to feel"? Are you from the government?

I know how I feel.....it was yet another tech demo that doesn't ultimately mean much to actual gaming.

So all you felt when watching it was, "Oh, look, another tech demo that won't really become a game?"

I think most people felt it was an amazing display. My personal experience was something like, "Oh, wow. Man... this is... wow..." Not saying you should have felt the same way, but I know myself and others were definitely hoping that it WOULD be the basis for their next game. Then, when we found out it WASN'T gonna be part of QD's new game, we felt disappointment, and probably a sense of loss.

Was all that you felt, even before you knew it wouldn't be indicative of of a new game, that the demo was only what it was: a demo? Did you feel nothing watching it?

Yep. Absolutely nothing. It was an interesting little narrative, but I knew it was just a tech demo. And tech demos mean nothing, because they're never done on realistic hardware and rarely ever turn into a game if not explicitly stated with the demonstration.

Tech demos......*Shrug*
