Parts of the internet went mental at the weekend after it was revealed that Apple boss Tim Cook had visited the offices of Steam owner Valve.
It would be an instant hit for the 'casuals'.
Yea im sure stupid ppl are gonna call the iphone 5 a gaming console
And considering that there are more casuals than hardcore gamers = Game Over *RIP Game Industry as we know it* :(
This would destroy everything! Apple fans will spend $600+ easy! http://www.christianpost.co... It's like they have mind control!
Don't know many casuals who will pay 800-1k for a casual gamers console.
well these morons pay 700 bux for a phone and and under powered tablets 300 bux for mp3 players so you never know.
Its less than a rumor, its a flat out fabrication
Rumors, but then again anything is possible Especially for a Huge company like Apple. It'd be a hit seeing as there are alot of people that treats Apple like Religion.
And the console will cost $999.99 the minimum...and then be called "Magical"
Its actually the iMagic, okkaayyyy?! and keep up will you, its old news. I can't wait for the recently announced iMagic2 with the rumored chode massage vibration setting. /s
Omg, that's so revolutionary. Day one buy tbh
Great... incoming $1000.00+ console that you will have to buy all apple brand wires and extras. No thanks.
The problem is that Apple doesn't own any game studios that I know of. If they had purchased a few than I could see some legitimacy to this. The Apple Pippin was a huge failure back in the mid 1990's and even though a lot has changed since then, Apple's current business model of charging twice what a product is worth and than selling a new version of that hardware 6 months later for an even higher price point just wouldn't work in the gaming industry. I'll stick to Windows Phones, Toshiba Handibooks and a regular MP3 player. I could give a crap less about the Apple brand name.
Have you seen how much Apple are worth? They could easily buy studios and it wouldn't even make a dent in their accounts. If apple enter the gaming market, it would be hard for the big three to compete on their own. Despite all the Apple Haters on the internet, there is no denying Apple's success. People care more about their products than other manufacturers' products. *edit* @tai Apple release new versions every year just like all other Phone/tablet/PC manfacturers. It's not every six months. Also, when the new products release, the price points stay the same. The older versions then get a price cut. Talk about over exaggerating! @RedDead Stupid site didn't include my edit. I don't believe apple will enter the hardcore gaming market for a second. They will aim to take the casuals but nothing else. Hardcore gamers are the minority these days and I don't think Apple could care about making games for them, when casual games are more lucrative.
Tell that to MS. MS are infinitely richer than Sony and nintendo. But it hasn't helped them. It's completely down to the business model. MS don't care about the Hardcore right now. Only the casual market that Nintendo have got their paws in
Apple could buy 10 studios right now and they wouldn't have games ready for a launch on par with the next Xbox or PlayStation. Bottom line is that Apple products are way overpriced, I don't see even the heavy Apple fans wanting to drop $1000 on a gaming console from them. @RedDead How hasn't money helped Microsoft? They went from no profit and hardly any marketshare with the original Xbox to a majority marketshare this generation, money has also helped them to sell a great number of Kinects, Halo games and Gears Of War games. Its obvious Microsoft is gearing up for next generation, so you flip focus a bit to ensure your product still sells after the next version has come out. They still have core games like Witcher 2, Halo 4, Forza Horizon, Steel Battalion and even some Kinect titles like Crimson Dragon are pretty core at the base game. They also offer games that everyone can enjoy like your Minecraft games. Sony is doing the same thing, you don't actually think Sorcery, Move and LBP Kart are hardcore do you? every company changes before a new hardware release, its just how it goes.
@marioftw, Please! M$ can match & up Apple dollar for dollar! Also, they have more than just a cult following. And, they have a gaming infrastructure thats very well established. Apple would be pissing money in the wind. Apple going after the casual wont ever work as long as Nintendo is around, period! Kinect will also have much to say about the casual market. From what I can tell, the Soccer Moms are eating this up. @RedDead, M$ leaving the hardcore, please! 343 is a billion dollar operation M$ created! Gears will stay, Fable will stay, Forza will stay; that is M$'s core group of studs. All you guys saying M$ doesnt relate to the hardcore is ridiculous conversation. @sly-famous, SONY will be out & you know it. SONY is looking at the door right now. SONY Corp. doesnt have the money to buy everything as they did in the PS2 days. Also, every studio they've purchased has yielded no dividends, but for Poly & god Of War games.
I agree with you on all the exaggeration stuff, but for you to think none of the big 3 can compete with Apple is ludicrous. Id rather buy an Sony, MS, Nintendo console before Apples because they have been doing it for yrs! Also just because Apple has a strong following doesn't mean their system would sell, theres big difference in buying an Iphone and playing games here and there on the go...
@otherzinc Apple is worth $500 billion, whereas MS is worth $250 billion. MS cannot match or beat Apple dollar for dollar! Do some research next time! Apple could easily create their own gaming infrastructure. Lol at the cult comment too! "Apple going after the casual wont ever work as long as Nintendo is around, period!" You know just because you type "period" doesn't make your opinion a fact? Apple have more money to throw around than Nintendo. Nintendo did awesome with the casual market this gen only. Nintendo is focusing on the Core with WiiU. Even they know it won't be that easy to get the casuals again! "M$ leaving the hardcore, please! 343 is a billion dollar operation M$ created! Gears will stay, Fable will stay, Forza will stay; that is M$'s core group of studs. All you guys saying M$ doesnt relate to the hardcore is ridiculous conversation." Microsoft have ditched the core. They have done a Nintendo. Difference is, Nintendo have learnt from that mistake. Microsoft couldn't care about the 60 million customers they have shafted though! It's only loyalists, like you, who can't see that. "SONY will be out & you know it. SONY is looking at the door right now. SONY Corp. doesnt have the money to buy everything as they did in the PS2 days. Also, every studio they've purchased has yielded no dividends, but for Poly & god Of War games." LOL just LOL! Sony is going nowhere. You're stupid for thinking so. They have operated like this for years. They have more studios and more i.p.'s then MS and Nintendo. Microsoft have just Halo, Forza and Fable. Sony have Littlebigplanet, Uncharted, Killzone, God of War, Sly, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance and more. Yet you think Sony are finished? If MS continue on this path, what's left of the core, will drop them next gen. Gears is finished with MS too and will definately go multiplatform. @Hazardman I totally agree with you. I love my iPhone and iPad but i will always buy consoles from the big 3. They have alot more experience in the field, and generally know what we want from our games. In regards to casual gaming though, i think Apple would come tops.
Don't forget, although the pippin was a massive flop, many of it's features were well ahead of their time. I think with their ecosystem now though, Apple won't release a stand alone console but rather an integrated gaming capable TV or a mini Mac geared towards gaming.
Apple is a big enemy, apple will win
The Bigger they are the harder they fall.
If Apple enters M$ will be out.
they entered b4 and failed so hard that it was funny.
Yeah, lol, almost like the Xbox. ;)
^^ lol I want some of what youre smoking!
If anyone new enters i want it to be Samsung.
i dont think it will be a console in the traditional sense, just a way to interact easily with your tv.
Apple makes great hardware, a bit pricey, but still very high quality. Their software integration is second to none. Brand recognition goes a long way, if they do get a console out, there will be games, all publishers will flock to it...who wouldn't? And millions would buy it. An Apple console that integrates all Apple services that millions of people use daily (iPhone, iPad, AppleTV, iTunes, iCloud, etc...) and steam now? Even XBLive would be put to shame. Gaming is changing indeed.
I call fake on this one. Why would Apple make a separate console when they already have so much market penetration with existing products. It makes more sense to just make existing products more game capable (Macbooks, iPads, iPhones, iPods, iTV, etc.)
What makes me laugh is how everyone thinks that apple is the only company to reach that market value, their have been others to reach that level of value & their will be others. The question is can they stay their & for how long.As for apple entering the console arena it will probably a joint venture w/ some else who has been in that arena, just so to offset the price BS they will be associated with & to also draw in the none sheep.(jm2cents)
itll be as powerfull as the wii and have the launch ps3 price.
