2007's Ten Burning Questions, Answered

Wired Game|Life - By Chris Kohler, January 08, 2008:

One year ago, Wired Game|Life asked their Ten Burning Questions For 2007: The things they wondered about the most as they headed into the new year.

One year later, they have their answers. Let's revisit last year's questions and see what's up, twelve months later:

• What's going to happen to PC gaming?
• Will Wii get a killer app?
• Who will fire first in the price wars?
• Will console exclusives die off entirely?
• Which game publisher will kick the bucket?
• Will somebody put a stop to microtransaction abuse?
• Will the Infinite Arcade become not so disturbingly finite?
• (When) will Sony fix PS3's problems?
• Can Nintendo repeat its success outside of Japan?
• Can Sony turn the PSP around?

Look who didn't read the article!
Quoted:
* Blu-Ray discs don't play back in 720p. They do now, although it took until May.
* Games don't play back in 1080i unless they're specifically programmed to (and the ones you want to play, aren't). Quick unscientific study of 14 PlayStation 3 game boxes sitting around my TV says that 10 only support 720p, and the other 4 support both 1080p and 1080i. Conclusion: Sony's 2006 fetishization of 1080p notwithstanding, 1080-anything is still not ready for prime time.
* Final Fantasy XII, Okami, and most other really good PS2 games look like total ass. Fixed in late January, and they even added upscaling later.
* The system auto-boots whatever disc is in the drive on power-up, and you can't stop it. Still a problem. Fixed! Thanks commenters.
* Those PSone games you downloaded aren't playable on the PS3, even though Sony said they would be before the end of the year. Fixed, but then Sony introduced a new problem: They're barely releasing any of these games in North America.
