5 Most Gruesome Character Deaths of the Gaming Generation

*Spoiler Alert* Games are filled with heartfelt storylines, memorable characters and of course death. Over the past few years there have been some sad deaths, some sort of satisfying deaths and even some funny deaths but they all have one thing in common and that’s violence and bloodshed. Games execute feeling better than some books and movies and when it comes to killing off characters they usually make it as shocking and gruesome as possible. So over the past few years there has been a lot of bloodshed but which deaths are considered the most gruesome of this time period?

I would say Heavy Rain and Dead rising had a pretty good amount of gruesome deaths (depending on how you play them), picking just one in the mix of those to games is pretty impossible

omi25p4392d ago

Heavy Rain definitely did. But the game that should be on this list is Dead Space

abombletap4393d ago

Thank you for writing spoiler alert cause I have not beat heavy rain yet

TheSuperior 4393d ago

its a great game. its actually my favorite ps3 exclusive just because of how different it is. love the story you will have fun with that game.

NovusTerminus4393d ago

Just for future reference, look at the tags after the article write up. That way you can see if there is a game you have not yet beaten or wish to avoid spoilers for.

I also had Heavy Rain spoiled for me. Still a great game to play through!

Lord_Sloth4392d ago

Get on it before it gets spoiled for you like it was me. Some dumbass wrote an article on best villains, didn't mark it properly, and said who the killer was.

Fylus4392d ago

That must have seriously ruined the the experience in game when you finally learn who the killer is. I feel for you:(

BlackTar1874392d ago

well the day heavy rain came out some jerk on here made his name the killer . Ruined the whole game for me.

Dante1124393d ago (Edited 4393d ago )

I'd have to say Manhunt and Manhunt 2 (with the uncensored mod) had some of the most gruesome deaths I've ever saw in a game. Eternal Champion is a close second. This gen though, I'd go with God of War 3.

LOL_WUT4393d ago

Yeah i agree with this Manhunt 1 & 2 had the most gruesome deaths. Even though Manhunt 2 was censored i had a cheat code on how to make it uncensored for the ps2.

Fylus4392d ago

The fight with Poseidon was beautifully brutal.

THILLREBORN4393d ago

Yeah some Kratos kills were a bit much especially in part 3...

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming7d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

fan_of_gaming7d ago

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

purple1017d ago

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing697d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming7d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno7d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming7d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac8d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

X-236d ago

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Cheech And Chong Are Coming To Call Of Duty Because Everything Must Be Consumed

The famous comedy duo is the latest example of pop culture becoming one big grey blob

Christopher22d ago

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris22d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera22d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii22d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts22d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX21d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.

is this what the kids want these days a pair of iconic stoners who were big in the 70s and have kind of held on I enjoyed their movies decades ago but I never recall the movie where cheech infiltrates a enemy base while chong snipes for support guess I must of missed that one

Man I'm getting to old for this

Knightofelemia22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Cheech just looks so wrong in the picture.

Profchaos22d ago

Why just why. cod up in smoke

They charge too much for a game that is kitsch.
