By the time I hit publish on this article there's a good chance it’ll already be outdated. That’s how fast next generation console rumors are hitting the net--it’s ridiculous. So why all the leaks, well here’s an answer, the gaming press is being trolled by “anonymous” sources.

Most of this. Stuff is being made up by kids who have no idea about the video game business and finances. Just yesterday a website posted that the next xbox dev kits will have 16 cores but the douce that gave the info is unknown.

The problem is that gaming "journalists" don't feel the need to follow standard protocol, which is verifying a source's info through another source. That's the way real news works. I don't see any reason why it should be any different in gaming.

If something isn't confirmed, it needs to be explicitly stated by the author that it is merely a rumor. However, in gaming, rumors are too often presented as fact.

"Keep wishing that the ps4 will be the be the beast that everyone wants it to be. Sony has already stated that the ps4 will not be a high tech console and not a lot money invested into research development like they done for the ps3. My opinion Sony wants to release a new console that will be comparably priced to the Wii U or cheaper to get back it's market share. Sony has learned from there mistakes this gen and is poised to re-enter the next gen and ready to do battle with Nintendo and MS."

He took something a random website said and made it true, then says this.....

I'm glad someone is seeing this, Since trying to dispute it often gets me de-bubbled. A source with no info whatsoever is useless and about as professional as writing the rumor yourself with no info to base it on.

It's all about the hits. Now I started writing for another site recently, we have a source, and although we don't know the persons name we do know a lot of details about the person such as how they are connected to the industry, obviously as a new writer for the site it is not my place to disclose any more info to anyone else.

However if our source handed me some info that I need to publish, I would certainly ask what details I could provide so that our source is credible to the public too. A name is unlikely since it would probably mean loss of a sweet job, But we need more info than 'an anonymous source' for these rumors that are stretched very far

Yeh the other day i had 5 bubs, down to 3 cuz of these articles.

But i do agree an anonymous source does not look like a reliable one if your reading an article. Also varys on where you read, Kotaku tends to get many leaks and rumours that are reliable.
