An analysis of the advantages of innovative next gen consoles, and an assessment of whether the benefits they provide are really worth it to gamers.
Absolutely The current generation of gaming consoles have been on the market for the better part of a decade. Starting with the Xbox 360 in 2005, followed by the Nintendo Wii entertainment console, and PS3 in 2006. It is now 2012. We have been fighting the good fight with this generation for many many moons now. Console cycles are very important for the growth of the gaming industry. Since gaming consoles have no upgrade option as does a PC. It is extremely necessary for updated consoles to drive the industry forward. The only drawback that I see from this is the likely chance of videogame prices hiking up $10 as they do annually each new generation. Also the price to develop games will skyrocket for developers. This will likely result to many studios closing down as they were during this current generation. If some of these consoles are as powerful as rumores mention a good percentage of smaller dev studios will struggle. Even worse then they are today. Sadly it does not end there. We have a solid chance to witness the beginning of the end of used game sales due to new piracy tech that will likely be implemented into next generation consoles. Hopefully the games produced next generation will justify the purchase. So far we have heard nothing but negativity in regards of new consoles. I pray that the games speak louder then all the hate thats been going around lately. The Nintendo Wii U entertainment console seems to be the 1st to cross the bridge. Hopefully Nintendo can start the war off correctly and shed some positive light back onto the videogame scene. Rated E For Everyone
yes for the real furthering of graphics cause i sure aint seeing the next gen with pc so yes next gen is necessary
is 2000 players online with BF3 PC graphics next gen? or can ps3 do this? http://www.youtube.com/watc... made by sony online ent. not on ps3 for a reason. lol 1080p alone is next gen for u. stop talking crap you should be thankful there pc gamers without them you could't have cross platfrom gaming.. And since sony puts games on pc. It is sad that you are more of a sony fanboy than sony.
why are you talking about ps3 since i didnt mention ps3, but anyways no ps3 exclusives on pc oh well
No. Build games that use the strength of each console. Stop using generic run of the mill engines expecting them to give flawless experiences on everything. Skyrim is a great example instead of coding for everything code for each platform to give the best it can get. Less bugs, better performance. I'm missing out on the witcher 2 but I would rather miss out then have a golden poo experience. I own a ps3 and Xbox give each the best do not stifle one to make a profit on the other it just gives everyone a bad taste that lasts for a long time.
Well ofcourse but Nintendo shouldn't continue, they continue to dissapoint me.. I'm done!! -______-
Bored bloggers and journalists should maybe just change venue , and go publish about tablets , since that's all they seems to care about now . What kind of retarded question and articles are those ? How could a console enthusiast and "journalist", bare tangible bad new , be not excited about the prospect of a new console and something to finally right about between crappy top10 and shallow opinion pieces ?
Yes. Not just better graphics but larger worlds and stuff like destructible environments and better AI and physics. You would think that now that PS3 and 360 have been mastered that devs would focus on creativity and innovation. It's actually the opposite. They milk their franchises year after year.(not saying games aren't fun) A new generation is necessary to keep devs from getting lazy.
I disagree - I think consoles have gotten TOO "innovative" lately. The Wii U? PS Move? Kinect? I'd prefer if devs focused on creating games with good gameplay and storyline, rather than trying to push the limits with hardware and graphics and see how innovative they can be. Maybe that's an old-fashioned opinion, but to me there's only so much graphics can do to improve a game.
I gotta be honest, I jumped the console boat long ago to join the PC world (FANTASTIC, btw...better graphics, cheaper games, mods, etc). The Wii U will introduce high definition. I've been playing Wii and GC games in 1080p hi def on Dolphin...this news didn't excite me. And the 360 and PS3 are going to have better graphics. OK...so what...they'll also be forcing an internet connection (which the PC has done and hasn't worked and has almost gotten rid of DRM), it seems like a huge step backwards and in the wrong direction. Truth is, I don't think I'm going to bother with the next gen consoles unless they bring something truly unique to the table.
This is exactly how I feel - I've been a PC gamer for a few years now, but I have a PS3 and 360 mostly for exclusives. I think I might not even bother with the PS4 and Xbox 720 or whatever.
I am on a wait and see approach. I bout the ps3 because its a bluray player and a gaming machine and a 360 for halo andnother games. having a PC may seem buying next gen unnecessary but perhaps console makers will suprise us.
Yes, YES, YESSSSS we need new consoles, we did quite a while ago, the games are not aging well on ps3/360, sub-hd, jaggies, and most importantly, bad framerates are becoming more and more common place as devs try to implement more pixels/textures on screen I'll buy all 3 next gen consoles just like i did ps3/360/wii back in 2005/2006 for the great and amazing exclusives that they come out with, but my pc will still be my main platform for gaming more/better control options kb/m, controllers, joysticks, racing wheels, wii controller, kinect-all on pc! better graphics/higher resolutions (1600p looks AMAZING) Cheaper prices/steam/amazon/gog Mods A library of over 20,000 games 99% of which are backwards compatible going back to the early 90's Emulation- I play DS, Wii, N64, Super nintendo, ps2, ps1, genisis games all on my pc in high definition, honestly my pc plays WAY more console games than my ps3/360/wii combined....
First, Sony and MS aren't just coming out with new consoles for the heck of it. In fact, they've made no announcements about new systems at all beyond denying that they'll be revealed at the upcoming E3. Coming down on them for things that people have simply made up is ridiculous. Now, do I think that both companies have new systems and games in the works? Sure. Some alleged specs have slipped out, but they haven't officially announced any features to either lament or celebrate. Also, saying that systems should simply be updated to some sort of "2.0" version is silly. That's basically just the next generation... Companies like Sony and MS have been focusing on catering to the hardcore market, so keeping up with the latest tech that the PC gamers have is important to their business models. Their next systems won't just be for no reason; they'll be to step up to where PCs are (probably, depending on if they want to keep waging a specs war or opt out like Nintendo...) so that hardcore gamers won't migrate to another platform. Also, from a financial standpoint, why wouldn't they want to sell the same customers a new system every 6 years? That's just good business... As for Nintendo's WiiU being basically an updated Wii... Can we wait to see what it actually does first? Nobody has seen the games, so saying anything about it is a guess or just flat out lying. With its power capabilities still vey much up in the air, why rush to toss it in the scrap heap? Finally, every new console is LITERALLY "next-gen," regardless of performance. Nintendo could come out with a new 16 bit console as a Wii follow-up, and THAT would be next gen because it is following the earlier piece of tech, basically as its offshoot - or child - an actual new generation... When a new generation of people come along, we don't question whether they have bigger brains or more fingers or can run faster; that would be ridiculous. They are the next generation simply because they followed the previous one. So until we can time-travel, GFY, the WiiU is next gen.
The current generation has expressed itself with many good games, the next one it should not be only about graphics, I think the time is ripe for new possibilities and ideas. As someone said before me, with a more complex AI and phisics there will be a lot of chances. We can just hope the industry is ready to give us what we are asking for. I' m ready for the new gen.
yes. Consoles just feel old to me these days. As a Xbox 360 owner I think Halo 4 will be a very good way to end a generation. This needs to be said: This generation was awesome. So many new ways that enhanced the gaming experience. Online for Sony and Nintendo (I know PS2 and GCN had it before, but please...), Arcade / PSN / WiiWare titles that secured hours of fun, Achievements / Trophies and quite a few new franchises like Uncharted, Gears of War, Alan Wake, inFamous etc. I am ready for the next generation.
Perhaps after I'm done with Starhawk & Dust 514, so no hurry.
i feel like what i have now is just fine, not looking forward to spending money on a console that i would have spent on games.
yup, it is inevitable, we gamers need next gen consoles to have a whole new game play experience, better graphics and creative concepts of playing next gen games
Dont know who youre talking to but college and bills dont pay themselves. Im not about to believe some has played every game this generation has to offer. Hardware doesnt decide how fun a game is. A good game is playing for hours but feel like minutes. Ive had a lot of these moments. Next gen needs to take its time because given all it takes to develop for it and whatever, its better to squeeze the life that the xbox and ps3 has for another year or 2 before an announcement.
Nah. We'll just all play on the current gen systems for the next... eternity. ... then again, if all this crap about used games not being playable on next gen systems turns out to be true, I won't be buying any next gen platforms at all.
