Nintendo's upcoming console might be a fantastic gaming platform, but it's up against competition it can't possibly beat: its predecessor.
I won't go and accuse the article of blasphemy. Everyone's entitled to their point of view. However, I think it's too early to judge since we only know the bare bones of the Wii U and its business plan. We don't even know all of the launch titles yet. Heck we don't have a single confirmed first party title outside of Pikmin 3. And if you get on my case because the Wii U is "outdated tech," kindly click on this link and watch the video. http://n4g.com/news/974731/...
Aw I want the authors time machine
No time machine required. This is based on specs revealed from dev kits and whatever confirmed information was unveiled. Watch the video for the comparison.
Nintendo will throw another Mario game and Zelda for Wii U. That's enough for Nintendo to sell the console.
Going by that logic, the PS3 failed as well...seeing as the PS3 sold 150 million units. The f*ck out of here, son.
I think your PS3 sales figures are off by about 80 million units. SO CLOSE!
I think he meant to type PS2 there.
the same way the Wii and 3DS were supposed to fail, right?
For some reason I have the feeling people have a wrong use of words. I think they are going for "personal disappointment". Ever since the Wii was revealed everyone has been opting for some image that is supposedly been Nintendo since the NES. You know, even if Wii-U fails. I'm sure their first party games will see the light. And I can't imagine how awesome these iterations will be. Just give me F-zero Nintendo...With track editor....DO IT.
GCN and N64 were both deemed failures, yet they were profitable for Nintendo. DS and Wii were predicted to be failures and they were incredibly successful. 3DS was assumed to be a failure after a slow launch, but now even that one has sold better than the DS (if comparing the amount of time it's been out, as oppose to total sales). Wii U will find an audience. Nintendo created one with the Wii and 3DS. I highly doubt many of the new fans of Mario (who bought 3D Land and Mario Kart 7) as well as the Galaxy and Party games will not get a Wii U to enjoy "Mario with better graphics." Same goes for Zelda. And you know what? That's okay. Because Halo/Gears of War fans flock to the Xbox and Uncharted/Ratchet fans flock to the Playstation. This is okay because it's because these consoles find their audience.
New Mario game 2013 New Smash Bros game 2014 New Zelda 2016 (I am basing this off the release dates of Super Mario Galazy, SSB Brawl, and Skyward Sword for the Wii, if you are wondering) :)
What's your point? No seriously I'm a HUGE Nintendo fan..yet I can't quite decipher exactly what you're trying to say?
Its not really positive or negative. I'm just stating what I think will happen. (Because Super Mario Galaxy, SSB Brawl, and Skyward Sword are all great games)
If he's talking about the Wii U getting the crazy sales the Wii did, I agree. The casuals are not going to re-up.
i wont open this either...... 3ds vs ds situation seems fine to me
Yup. Nobody's saying that the Wii U will sell as much as the original Wii, but that doesn't mean it will fail. Hell, the PS 2 sold more than any console since - does it make every single console released after that a failure? I don't think so.
I cant wait a year from now when the WiiU will do just fine and I'll come back to this article and facepalm lol
Will the Will-U fail? In sales? No getting 3rd party support? Yes
This is getting lame... Unlike the Wii, the WiiU will be mostly marketed towards the "hardcore" (Nintendo has said this many many times before). I wouldn't even call that the same target audience... but whatever. If Nintendo honestly thought that the WiiU would outsell the Wii, would they even be catering to the "hardcore" crowd? Lastly, according to this article every console that didn't sell as much as the Wii... is a failure.
the wii had a gimmick that everyone wanted to try out. that is why it sold I dont think the wii u tablet controllers will have the same appeal. the biggest appeal of tablets is 1) the portability 2) the apps (goes hand in hand with portability) 3) the micro purchases and online stores i dont think the wii u controller will draw in that crowd. and I dont think all the hardcore gamers from the PS3 and xbox are just going to jump into the nintendo boat over the course of its single year head start.
Sure, the tablet in its current state is used for the primarily for the functions you said, but what happens when you apply tablet tech to real fleshed out games? The possibilities for utilizing what is essentially a dual screen console are endless. If the casual crowd gets a wii u because they enjoy their Angry Birds style games, I think they will be pleasantly surprised by just how much more the tablet controller can do. At least, its what I think that's what Nintendo is going for.
@arbitor365: its funny because after the Wii has now sold more than 95million+ ,you probably are one of the very few insightful people that predicted it would be the downfall of Nintendo before it was launched. Or that ipad would crumble Apple's conglomerate because clearly nobody wants that thing either, right! It's called being short sighted and people that have no creative vision stay stagnant in their mediocrity...
Did it fail already.
Yeah, it was still born.
lookin forward to e3 when u will see nintendo shove a hot poker up the asses of the fanboys who only post on negative wiiU topics and do not want to accept that finally a nintendo console is gonna have the best visuals again and the most power along with some more nintendo innovation magic. lmao
