Kotaku: I think it goes without saying that I love music in video games. But not all games require a soundtrack, and in fact, some games that have a soundtrack are better without it.

Open world games with a strong atmosphere (with many environmental cues you might normally miss with music playing) do not need soundtracks going all the time.
I do still appreciate music during cutscenes or emotional moments.

All games should enable the player to mute the music/ost completly imo.
