Sony to sell Organic LED televisions in U.S.

Sun Jan 6, 2008

Las Vegas (Reuters) - Sony Corp on Sunday unveiled a next-generation super-thin television and a robot-like music player, hoping to highlight innovation in order to keep consumers hungry for its line of consumer electronics.

Sony, riding a hot streak as its PlayStation 3 game console bounces back from a slow start in sales and its Blu-ray disc technology gains supporters, showcased Organic Light Emitting Diodes or OLED TVs at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Proponents say they could potentially replace LCD and plasma TVs.

Anybody hear of any news of a 60 inch OLED???

The 11in cost $2500 who would want to get a 60" at the price it might be at. It won't be mainstream for a while until the price comes down.

How the hell did you get a disagree by asking a question lol.

Well that's what I'm wondering. When will a 60 inch be available at a normal cost of $2500 - $3000. Since they stop making their big screen sxrds, I was wondering if they're planning to use these for their big screen sets.

I would give it a couple of years. Remember, Plasmas(58in and up) and LCD(50 and up) still cost starting at $4000 and this technology is closer to LCD than any other. Thin(thinnest in the world) and that screen getting bigger will just get more expensive so based on how LCD's trend in that size are going. I don't have confidents it will be just in 2 years. The tech is still young so we will see how it matures.

OLED's are cheaper to make than LCD/Plasma I hear. So it would not be too long for this sucker to be at a decent price. I think it just costs that much now because the tech is still new, like you said boo. But Knight, I'm with you bro. PS360 games would look jaw dropping sweet with a 60 inch OLED. Come on, 1 mil:1 ratio. That is sick.
