People don't really think about the huge differences those 2 types of games have, but really there different from western in tons of ways.

Without reading this article. Western - Most play FPS. Gets bored with games easily so they buy more games. Online play is very important. Japan - Loves classic gameplay. Most play RPG.. Most play solo. More likely to replay games campaign.
Monster hunter and pokemon are the biggest games in japan and are both multiplayer centric. (Dragon Quest, another massive seller, usually isn't multiplayer, but the latest two are.)

:O I didn't know that. And those are two of the most well-known IP's the other side of Super Mario. I guess the Japanese refined and perfected what Americans invented.
