Nintendo has responded to the claims that their next generation console is not as powerful as the Xbox 360, nor the PS3.
Well Nintendo heard all the commotion and has responed with the following statement ... "We do not focus on technology specs," said a Nintendo spokesperson to Digital Trends. "We understand that people like to dissect graphics and processing power, but the experience of playing will always be more important than raw numbers." To each his own, I'm waiting for the ps4.
Playstation 4? Is this what the article was about?? Or is it that N4G users love to say how they don't want Nintendo, MS & Apple on all related articles..? If you want nothing to do with something that's okay, but stop these insinuations of ill will for gods sake. ..... OT: Nintendo is right. The gaming experience will always be more important than anything else.
"@ Akuma blabla! ps4 who cares the wiiU will be the first true next gen this generation so i will be getting the AAA titles on it before any of the rest thx." Is the iPhone 4s considered to be a next gen upgrade to the iPhone 4? The wii u will have specs comparable to this gens hd consoles so I wouldn't consider it next gen. I'm surprised that I haven't heard some spout the same rhetoric as other nes puppets about how hardware power doesn't matter but they can't be satisfied with the Gamecube or the wii.
I really don't get this whole Wii U debacle. Based off the rumored specs. the Wii U should be more powerful than the PS360. The rumored CPU should be more powerful than the 360 since it sports an extra core (Quad vs. Tri) and it should have at least dual threading per core (Wii U = 8 cores vs. 360 = 6 cores) all running at 2.4GHz - 4+ GHz. The rumored GPU in the Wii U is superior to the 360's and the PS3's, and that's based off the weakest version of the rumored GPU. The Wii U should be at least 50% - 2X more powerful than current consoles. So again is that table controller taking that much of a toll on the hardware, because based off pure rumored specs. the Wii U is the more powerful console of the 3.
A power7 CPU with 4 cores which I am assume as the weakest Power7 CPU is possibly a choice Nintendo picked. Power7 features Quad threading with up to 4 SMT threads per core. PS3 and X360 have only 6 useable threads for Developers. WiiU should have 16 threads. Even at a minimum that makes WiiU's CPU at least 2-3 times faster. Nintendo's main focus is never power, but even so this time around they will deliver a quality that is equal to what can be done on a PC in 2011/2012 with a few tweaks for optimization.
http://n4g.com/news/974731/... Regardless, if you're at all concerned about the specs, you should see this video. It analyzes the specs of the Wii U and the current HD hardware and proves that the Wii U based on what we know about it already cannot be weaker.
day one for me i cant wait finally a nintendo console on top again both in power and innovation. @ Akuma blabla! ps4 who cares the wiiU will be the first true next gen this generation so i will be getting the AAA titles on it before any of the rest thx
I think they summed it up well. If you worried about power go build a PC. Otherwise you just sound dumb. Any games similar to Skyward sword out yet?
I think Nintendo is holding back and on THE e3 they Will blow you minds
this guy pretty much just confirmed that a WiiU a 2012 year system is just as powerful as 360/ps3..FAIL..XBOX3/PS4 are gona murder the WII U spec wise..
ps4 specs have already been leaked and they are tired. a 7670 gpu is worse then the 4870 in the wii u yeah so keep waiting for your ps4
hahaha leaks/rumors you are so simple minded... I wont even bother making you look like a fool
Bonsa, You laugh at Lionel about rumors he read, yet bash Nintendo about rumors YOU read. Nothing has been confirmed. So i think we know who the fool is here *cough bonsa cough*.
funny when it's a wii u rumor it's fact and when it's ps4 it's bullshit.sony fanboys are so insecure it's a joke.diddums "please mommy the nasty man from nintendo is going to make a console better then mine make him stop mommy or i will scream and scream and scream"lol
http://n4g.com/news/974731/... I will spam this video link to high heaven if I have to. It proves the Wii U (even in earlier forms) is NOT weaker than current generation hardware.
@PopRocks359: not only does this video prove how stupid the fanboys are all looking right now. But it really shows how modest and secretive Nintendo is really being with this thing. The wiiu cpu mops the floor with the Cell chip and Xbox Cpu put together! This makes so much sense and proves where they got the whole Wiiu having 2- 1/2 times the processing speed of the ps3. Because looking at just the basic specs of what the Wiiu cpu could be, it takes the ps3 2-1/2 clock cycles to achieve what the Wiiu cpu can do in one clock cycle. Which is misleading to most because it has nothing to do with the actual power of the machine whatsoever. The easiest way to put it, is that both the 360 & ps3 both have 6 lane highways, but the Wiiu has a 16 lane highway and the amount of cache that each cpu has allows the density of traffic to be that much greater. In which neither the Cell nor Xbox cpu can hold a candle to the Power 7 chip in this area... Looking at these specs to the core, its very easy that Wiiu is 4-5x the Power of ps3 theoretically and that's being conservative because we don't know the amount or configuration of the ram, cpu cache, eDRAM or vRAM in this thing. Which could be a magnifier in the whole process of what the Wiiu is capable of!
Can't they just come out and say "Yes, it is" or "No, it isn't" so we can end this BS?
Yep i agree but the comment they made about "We do not focus on technology specs" makes it seem like its on par with this gen or maybe weaker. If i where them and i knew that my console was more powerful than current consoles i would've said yes, that way i build some more hype. Then i would reveal the specs at E3.
Its not that there concentrating on great games instead of power the tech demos on them underclocked devkits a year ago were easy better than anything ive ever seen on anything, and that was the 1st gen dev-kits they get more powerful each time and we have had 5 dev kits now,the 4th is what Crytek said was very very powerful, the 5th is what went massively more powerful than the already powerful 4th,WORK IT OUT. Nintendo are saving the REAL TALK for E3 and Mark Rein has said prepare yourself for what Nintendo have so i guess we will be blown away at E3 and when everyone see's the game reels of New WiiU software people wont care about specs me included. Specs,Specs,Specs,Specs,Specs la la la la la la la boring boring boring who cares ??????
Even if the Wii U is a weaker system. Doesn't matter, Weaker systems always Win each generation. So If Sony and Microsoft want to release a huge power of a system. Go ahead, Nintendo won't be sitting in there pants thats for sure.
I'm sure you meant shitting in their pants, but you are absolutely spot on. Weaker systems do "win" generations and the fact is Nintendo NEVER respond to any rumours and crap goin' round. The ONLY reason a Nintendo spokesperson even said anything about this is for publicity. Well played Nintendo, I say. And Digimortal might I add that at the end of the day, we have Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Zelda and now Wii Sports- the others do not. Simple as that.
dnt look for this console to be cutting edge in graphics just look for alot of wii people to get something new, nintendo is shooting themselves in the foot on this one.
to be honest, nintendo is partially correct, some games focus on gfx more than gameplay, they are right from a "development standpoint" but as a plan for a new console that gonna have all the next gen games, they are dead wrong, disappointing news in the end, the wiiu is basically next gen's wii so far which is a bummer, I was planning to get one but now.......
They aren't confirming anything yet. Nintendo always keeps it to themselves. We still don't know what the specs are. This is just typical Nintendo PR talk that has been going on since the Wii. All I want is F-Zero...it's been way overdue.
F-Zero and StarFox
The problem will be 3rd party support at the latter years. Well, price is the main battle anyways.
Well they cannot release the official specs but he is right about Gameplay.
All points taken... how many people do you know, under 75, that are walking around with their walk-about cassette player and making comments like... the technology doesn't matter it's all about the music. (stretched and deteriorated tape noises)
If there wasn't some truth to these rumors, Nintendo wouldn't have responded. They never respond to these type of things. I was actually shocked that they did which is pretty telling. I can't wait to see the backtracking if it turns out to be a weaker system. Certain hardcore Nintendo fans have been straight up obnoxious with the bragging when all the rumors of it being powerful was leaking out. It will be glorious if it turns out the opposite.
http://n4g.com/news/974731/... It's not weaker. Not even in its primitive form. Don't be so smug. Also Nintendo doesn't respond to rumors. Morons who go ape shit over one anonymous rumor on the day after April Fools is another story.
I don't really think bettering 6-7 year old hardware (which it should) is anything to brag about really. I just wanna know if it holds its own in next GEN race game wise, cuz let's be holnest 90% of original wii games were just shovelware imo
When I buy a car I like to know the horsepower. When I buy a house I like to know how many rooms it has. As gamers we have a right to know how powerful our PC's and consoles are before we buy them. Nintendo clearly have much to hide. Otherwise, why not come out and tell people the good news? If gaming is not about power and graphics Nintendo, why are you still not making the NES? Why did you create the SNES, N64, GAMECUBE, and Wii? Gaming has, and always will be about the tech. Sure, its not the most important thing, but its still ranks pretty highly.
And clearly Its not that they have anything to hide, they are just a very Japanese company at heart. Which by nature most Japanese practice having very humble attitudes and demeanors... Its not that the Wiiu won't have the technology to hang with the best HD systems, but Nintendo's motto is I'd rather show you then tell you what the system can do... Because at the end of the day Sony may paint a nice theoretical picture of what you may get all excited about. But the harsh reality is that the ps3 will never achieve in realworld settings what Sony has calculated that it can do on paper! Which ends up being nothing more than false Hype... Just to show you how a Japanese company at heart works and thinks, not only in 2001 did Nintendo produce a console that was hardware capable of stereo-scopic 3d back then. But they were also very humble about what the GC could achieve in real game settings. They stated that it would only do 12-14 million polygons with all effects turned on and I believe it was EA that had the GC doing double that easily as soon as they got DevKits. In the end numbers are just numbers and just because the biggest guy in the room is the biggest, that doesn't mean he's the baddest!
You might have something worthwhile to read in there, but my eyes just can't be bothered with breaking down 20 straight lines of text. On topic: vague response is vague. I'm not saying the WiiU will flop or anything like it, but it sure would help drum up interest if some specs/comparisons were confirmed; since it's aimed more at the hardcore gaming market, and hardcore gamers care more about such things, that only makes sense, doesn't it?
People need to realize you can't make those assumptions until you get a Wii U. That's like saying you don't like the taste of this meat and you haven't even tasted it yet.
"It seems as if they are more focus on delivering a great successor to the Wii rather than competing for power with the next PlayStation and Xbox" I'd like to see Sony and MS trying to deliver a great game experience, instead of competing for power with a PC. But meh, we all know we'll have the revolutionary dualshock 4.
Nintendo responded because the guy is saying there new console is weaker than 360/ps3 when its more like 10/12 times the power. HD4870 for e.g is 25 million fillrate/360 has 3.1 million, and thats the GPU comparison, remember 720 rumoured to be 6 times the power of 360 well thats the rumoured radeon in the 720 its got a 15 million fillrate so around 6 times the power,so Rumoured wiiu HD4870 has twice the power of rumoured 720 GPU end of.
@ABizzel1 @DeadlyFire & @Ck1x you guys should stop well your ahead because A.The specs on current gen hd consoles are incorrect that you have given b.WiiU's specs are not even official yet so your poorly thought out comparison between current gen hd consoles specs & Wiiu's specs is premature. Cheers Gamers & Happy Gaming!
You are absolutely right we should stop because we could be under selling ourselves with its specs! It doesn't take a rocket scientists to gauge a basic wiiu spec list... they at least gave us the family of chips that the wiiu could be using, so we at least know the bare minimum. And the ps3 and 360 specs are public knowledge so we know what those systems are theoretically capable of
Then you guys should be aware of this information about PS3 below... http://charbax.com/2006/05/... http://www.blachford.info/c... http://www.anandtech.com/pr... http://www.yostuffs.com/200... RSX: Reality Synthesizer -part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watc... RSX: Reality Synthesizer -part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watc... RSX: Reality Synthesizer- part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watc... interactive ray tracing for the cell broadband engine... Ray tracing is much more computationally expensive than the more commonly used raster graphic process. Both attempt to create realistic images, but only ray tracing delivers optically correct results. The raster graphic process falls short because it considers each object in a scene as an isolated entity.Ray tracing is also able to compute the effects of indirect lighting, where light is transferred from one surface to another. This technique is called "global illumination;" the first step in this direction is "Ambient Occlusion," which is implemented by Interactive Ray Tracer.Today a large, complex, ray-traced scene might take hours to render. If that is multiplied by number of frames (24 to 30) in a typical second of animation and then by the length of the animation, it is easy to see why production studios are investing heavily in server clusters for generating feature films. Now consider the implications within the context of an interactive video game where, as opposed to a scripted film, every possible scenario must be taken into account and each frame must be rendered in 1/60 of a second. For this reason, ray tracing has long been considered too expensive for interactive purposes. However, the Cell Broadband Engine processor can trace high-definition frames in fractions of a second. This processor provides a cost-effective alternative to current ray-tracing options and helps free studios from the limitations of low-fidelity, raster-based graphics approximations in their final production frames. On the Playstation 3 running Linux, six of the Cell Broadband Engine's eight SPEs are available and are deployed for ray tracing. The RSX graphics chip normally used to compute images sits idle as 720p or 1080p frames are computed by software and sent directly to the framebuffer. Furthermore, the user can navigate through the scene with the PS3 controller. P.S..Keep in mind that software & hardware follow under the principles of science in other words science is unique in that its methods demand not only that the ideas proposed be tested and replicated, but everything science comes up with is also inherently falsifiable. In other words, unlike religion and politics, science has no ego, and everything it suggests accepts the possibility of being proven wrong eventually. It holds on to nothing and evolves constantly.” Cheers Gamers & Happy Gaming!
I dont actually believe this is nintendo responding. sounds like more BS.
Nintendo still living in the 90's ? Classic i'm waiting for the PS4
Heres the thing: When I buy a new car, I don't want a joystick instead of a steering wheel. I don't want buttons instead of gears. The controls are not important so long as they work well. For me, it's the same with consoles. I'm more interested in the consoles capabilities and games than I an in it's controls. That's why I wasn't interested in the Wii and I'm not interested in the Wii U. When I play a game I want to FORGET about the price of plastic in my hands and immerse myself in the game. I can't to that with Nintendo's gimmicky consoles. They know they can't compete with the big boys so they put the steering wheel on the other side of the vehicle.
