Stuart Black: 'Games more focused on features than f**king shooting'

Stuart Black has said that shooters are more prioritised with features than the actual feel of the game.

"For me, it's always, for any game, the most important thing is how it feels, and that's particularly true of shooters," he said.

"And so many shooters... I'm a shooter fan right so from a personal view I buy them just to f**king play them.

"As soon as I pick up the pad and I start turning round and I shoot, it's always a bit like, 'Meh, it's okay but it's not f**king great, you know?' So those things aren't hardware-dependent, that's all your focus and development.

"I don't want to criticise anyone in particular but I find a lot of shooting games, they don't focus enough on the f**king shooting, they're too busy doing some other f**king fancy feature and the shooting gets left behind."

Agreed,

Acknowledging the sh*t you've been shoveling is the first step to improving though Stu! :D

I like shooters too but I hate the fact that they've become so popular that it's a drain on the industry, and the creativity that might've gone into games of other genres, takes a back seat. I don't care how good the shooting feels anymore if there's no creativity. Games like BioShock defy the trend. I miss the old days.

I was a big fan of this guy's game on PS2 - BLACK, but that was many years ago.

I don't get that statement at all. There are plenty of great games in other genres. Skyrim, ME3, Journey, NG3, Asura's Wrath, Yakuza: DS, SFxT, Twisted Metal, Darkness 2, all the sports games are just a few of recent releases that are not shooters (or at least are not first and foremost shooters). Upcoming this year there are a ton more titles that aren't shooters. You're statement couldn't be more false. If anything, the success of shooters enable publishers and devs to make games in other genres that don't do as well.

Of course there are plenty of other games in different genres, but their popularity ratio to that the of the shooter category by comparison to previous generations is unhealthy.

"If anything, the success of shooters enable publishers and devs to make games in other genres that don't do as well."

I can't say I agree with this statement. All I'm saying is, if there are going to be so many shooters, I'd rather there be more completely amazing and creative ones like the TimeSplitters series for the arcadey ones and BioShock and Deus Ex for the more serious ones. But this is not the case anymore. Consumers just don't give a sh*t anymore, and this is affecting what the developers and publisherS want to put out... CoD clones!

Stopped reading their , I find most fps games with a pad extremely boring , as soon as I use a Mouse and Keyboard I feel extremely more immersed and aware of my surroundings and able respond much faster with real accuracy and not be limited by clunky controls.

Controller FPS is like shaking hands with a cat , however playing games like GoW and UC3 is fantastic.

I have to agree i tried many times to play FPS on ps3 with ps3 controller and a 360 type controller. Just cant do it aint nothing like a mouse and keyboard in FPS.

What he's saying it quite the truth .. however what he is saying doesnt follow through his games . At least not in anything post black

And yet Bodycount played like absolute crap...AND HAD NO FEATURES!

No wonder he deserted the game, although how he can put his name out there talking about this stuff makes my mind boggle when he had a game out not that long ago that suffered from terrible controls and gameplay.
