The Eight Most Unappreciated Games of 2007

Despite this newness, the video games industry -- and its community of fans -- is thriving. While some games enjoy accolades like "Best Game of the Year" and sell millions upon millions of copies, there are some gems that remain hidden from both the critic and the communities' watchful eyes.

Awesome find.
"If the term 'misunderstood' ever applied to a game, Assassin's Creed was it." Sad and true. AC was a classic that so many just didn't get it.

My list of unappreciated would be:
1.Assassin's Creed
2.Crush (Little PSP title)
3.The Witcher
4.Zack & Wiki
5.Contra 4
6.STALKER
7.Mass Effect
8.Persona 3 (Though I didn't get to play it :( )
9.Ratchet & Clank TOD
10.Odin Sphere

And funnily enough, the guy said 360!!!! It's also available on the PS3. In fact, if it would not be for Everyday Shooter, I would have wonder if the guy ever tried a PS3...

Now, my official unappreciated game of 2007 is definitively LAIR!

No matter what critics have said, this is still a great game. After all, there's tons and tons of games out right now, and so many of them are not worth the money, but Lair is definitively a buy in my book, ahead of many of them.

Gondee5952d ago

Mass effect is at 1.6 million copies.

supnub55952d ago

the witcher sold over 1mil worldwide so i wouldn't say it was underappreciated.

Caxtus7505952d ago (Edited 5952d ago )

?? Mario Galaxy and Assassins Creed??

"hidden from both the critic and the communities"??

What a poorly researched article. Both sold well over a million and both got good to great average scores!

"Galaxy sold almost no copies." er Ive heard it has reached well over a million.

MK_Red5952d ago

lol, I do believe that Assassins was unappreciated but Mario Galaxy definitly doesn't belong there. It's the highest rated game of 2007 and has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide.
PErsonally I believe Mario Galaxy is the overrated not underrated.

barom5952d ago

I totally agree. Assassin's Creed sold millions and for being a new franchise that's pretty amazing. An average score of around 80% is still pretty good. I'm pretty sure everyone can agree that Assassin's Creed has it's flaws (in my opinion some big flaws).

Mario Galaxy has sold a bunch and have been getting perfect 10s all over. How it's underappreciated is beyond me.

Only game I felt he/she got it right was Eternal Sonata. It was overshadowed by Blue Dragon (which is in my opinion an inferior game).

AngryTypingGuy5952d ago

I think that Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed have both sold way too much to be called "under appreciated". Assassin's Creed is the fastest selling new IP in years, and Mass Effect sold well over a million in a short amount of time.

One game that I think went largely unnoticed is The Darkness. It has great gameplay, great voice acting, and some of the best graphics I've ever seen. I hope they make a sequel.

joemomma5952d ago

Lair. It borught cutting edge graphics and innovation and yet the hypocritical reviewers who rate wii motion sensing good yet rate ps3 bad because of it. How much sense does that make? None.

mintaro5952d ago

the reason that lair got bad reviews was the fact that the controls were not polished, and that they forced you to use the sixaxis.

ElfShotTheFood5952d ago

Mario was "unappreciated"? It sold over a million copies and has an average review score of 97% on GameRankings.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

darthv722h ago

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood3h ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

VenomUK35m ago

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.
