Sony shouldnt have invested so much in 3DTV's. 3D will fail just like it did in the 50's and 80's. It's a recurring, passing fad that only a small minority care about.

Why Samsung, Sony and other big TVs manufacturers invest in OLED HD displays!?

Yes they are very expensive but if they put more investment into it the prices will go down as competition gets hotter.

3D is a love it or hate situation but you can't go wrong with amoled displays.
Like seriously just look at the galaxy s2/vita display then go back to your LCD tv and you'll see how lifeless and washed out they look in comparison.

I think 3D might have a chance if they perfect glasses-free multi-angle view TV's. But the prices of those TV's will be insane. I dont think it's here to stay- not now at least. A lot of people, including myself, dont think it's worth the pricetag, especially since it doesnt add anything to TV/games and you have to wear those goofy Bret Hart glasses.

I picked up the Sony PlayStation display bundle from Best Buy last month while they were running the sale. It came with the display, 2 pair of glasses, MLB 12 The Show, MotorStorm Apocalypse and an HDMI cable all for $300. I needed a new monitor for my new desktop, and I figured at that price, I couldn't pass it up. The display is too small to put in my living room or even my bedroom, but they make awesome computer monitors. The image quality is excellent. Sucks that it doesn't come with a remote, but like I said, at the price I got it at, I'm not complaining. I've played some 25+ games in 3D on PS3 and 360 since getting it and while I was not very excited about 3D initially, it does add a whole new level to the gameplay experience. I wouldn't have went out and bought a 3D display just because I want to game in 3D, but finding a deal makes 3D gaming more enticing.

Just like motion controls right?

OH WAIT. Troll more.

-Ninja-2301d ago (Edited 2301d ago )

What part of my comment was trolling?. 3D has been around since the 50's and has failed repeatedly and will fail again this time. It wont be around long enough for people to care about it before the next wave of 'must-have' TV's wipe it out. You only thought i was trolling because the TV in the article is a Sony one. Grow up, ffs.

3D is not a fad.

That's like saying wireless, or touchscreens are fads.

I kind of agree with Ninja. Until 3DTV's are able to do 3D with no glasses, at any angle, for cheap, without losing brightness, they just aren't going to be very popular. 3DTV's have been around for years now and they still aren't selling very well. Not nearly as well as the industry thought. Even the movie theater industry is seeing a major drop in people going to 3D movies. People are opting to watch the regular version over the 3D version.

UHDTV's will be more popular and adopted faster. Sony invested in the wrong tech, IMO.

its hard to find a movie theater that shows something thats not in 3d anymore, i go to those showings (that arent in 3d) if i can, but its difficult to find.

but if theyre making money, then thats all they need, if theyre not making money its time to get out of that market because it doesnt look like its going to explode anytime soon with the current tech.
