PSF: Prey 2 cancelled by Bethesda?

PSFocus writes: Several weeks before the Game Developers Conference started Bethesda announced that the events surrounding Prey 2 where cancelled, but no explanation was given. Sources say that Bethesda is cancelling Prey 2 and we should expect a official statement next week.

This isn't the last one. In another week or two we'll hear that THQ has finally shut down Devil's Third and Itagaki and Valhalla are looking for a job. It doesn't look like another publisher, such as Square Enix, is going to buy the project.

The videos just looked too promising and the general outlook and reaction from gamers is that they really want this game.

Yeah Prey 2 looks incredible. It's got this Mass Effect universe with a solid FPS perspective on it's mirrors edge style platforming. To be able to run down an alien like its blade runner, just blows me away. It's nothing like the original. It's something fresh and new and I hope they dont cancel it.

I am doubtful of cancelling, but a long delay to build the game on Next generation formats as well could be possible as they could expand it graphically to match the CGI presentation even. Many studios are ramping up hiring for 2013 titles for possible next gen. platforms.

It's quite likely. Bethseda has been having funding disputes with several studios, they're being very bullish with their owned houses. The assets might get pushed to another studio however.

I was really looking forward to Prey 2, it looked to really bring some innovation to the FPS genre, as it wasn't a MP centric, linear experience.

It looked sort of like a first person Red Dead Redemption in space, I thought the concept was awesome.

First of all people, it's Zenimax, the company that owns bethesda, that's behind this cancelation not Bethesda so divert your rage to the company that actually behind it. ]

Second, I am amazed and angry that ZENIMAX will cancel a game with actual potential but will publish utter garbage like WET, Rouge Warrior, and Brink, the first two feature a D-List celebrity so it probably contributed to it being released. If the cancel this game I would from this point would not buy another game that has the ZENIMAX logo on it because this is utter BS.

Lastly, I was really looking forward to this game because I am a huge fan of the Hard Sci-Fi genre and Philip K. Dick and Blade Runner and this game looked like it was made by people who are also fens of this genre.

PS: Maybe they will shop it around. Try EA. They always seem to be interested in publishing IP's, they did save Kingdoms of Amalur.

No it's Bethesda Softworks (publishing arm), which is owned by ZeniMax Media group, which also owns Bethesda Game Studios (makers of the Elder Scrolls games) and also several other development studios.

ZeniMax Media is the parent company but decisions about publishing are handled by their publishing arm (Bethesda Softworks. ZeniMax is more of a board of investors.

Man, I was really looking forward to this game. Although this is no official confirmation or anything i really hope this isn't happening. I'll believe it when i hear it straight from the publisher
