Nvidia unveils the GeForce GTX 680: massively multicore, insanely powerful

PC Gamer: "You’ve known it was coming, but you are not prepared. Until now you’ve known it only as “Kepler,” but after today you’ll know it as the GeForce GTX 680—the fastest and most efficient GPU that Nvidia has ever built, and one of the sexiest we’ve ever laid eyes upon." (NVIDIA, PC)

Wow, sounds really impressive!!!

poster summed it up nicely

"Exactly what games are we supposed to use this thing with? Everything is a 360 port.

If they want me to upgrade Nvidia needs to start forking over more money to devs to make PC games with better graphics instead of just using their logo at the beginning."

$499+, pretty reasonable and in line with the AMD competition.

It's like £410 in the UK :\

I've only just bought my GTX580 anyway and I'm happy with the power it provides :)

My new card in the coming 2 months , i'm quite fed up with Ati's ludicrous drivers and this time they are behind anyway tech wise
No_Pantaloons  +   1228d ago
That's a preview?! It's nothing but hype. And trying to say its as powerful as 3 580s is pure bullsh**.

I have nvidia now, and plan to buy something from the 600 line, but man I have no respect for crap marketing.
Baka-akaB  +   1228d ago
the preview itself is devoid of tech infos , but there are benchmarks available .

Of course there is lots of PR BS , but in most tests the 680 is usually 30-35% better than the 580 .

At the very least it brings fancy but still useful stuff , like adaptive vertical sync and the kepler

Pretty nice CARD for the next Gen consoles (720/PS4)
Baka-akaB  +   1228d ago
I doubt any next gen console is getting that but isntead far cheaper and lower end 28nm graphics cores .

Cheaper - yes, but lower end - no.

But that's just my guess. We'll see... :)

Thats possible, but dont forget current gen was pretty high end when it launched.
360 and ps3 GPU's were equal to about 400 USD range GPU's at their time.

Given that the VITA is a fairly high end portable device Id say the ps4 will be some beast too.

PS3 at its time had a totally unique cpu which was a result of a lot of R&D. Blu-ray player... Lets not get started on how expensive standalone players were and the R&D... And then the RSX wich is essentially a 7800 or 7900... which ever it is it was in among the top NV cards at the time. Too bad it didnt take long before the 8000 series came out as it was a major step up.

So I think atleast 1 console will have a fairly high end card next time around but I cant say for sure that they all will be like our current gen in that respect. We will have to wait and see...

What I can say though is that the 680 is pretty damn sweet.

Too bad Nvidia cards don't support Dolby Ture HD and DTS Master Audio encoding for Blu-ray. Otherwise I'd sell my dual 5870s (which run everything just fine now) and get one.
