Flat-panel TVs soon could go wireless; Rivalry over wireless HDTVs

The Associated Press - By Peter Svensson, January 3, 2008:

Flat-panel TVs look lovely on a wall - the cords hanging from them, less so.

After a few years of false starts, the industry finally seems close to tackling that problem. At least three dueling wireless technologies for high-definition TVs will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which starts Monday. Manufacturers promise that sets incorporating these technologies will be in stores before the next holiday season.

but a lot of this has do with cleaning up entertainment systems and set-up. Several audio receivers will be out this year with wireless capabilities, including the new Denon AVR 5308. The tech is getting to be really cheap. The trend with streaming and cleaning up wires is starting to hit it's stride in the industry. Some of it is to help the consumer with firmware up dates, keeping these expensive pieces of equipment viable longer when new audio and video formats become available. It's something consumers have been looking for.
