During the past two weeks, things have gotten out of hand. People destroying copies of Mass Effect, starting charity drives to change the ending and now, returning the game because they didn't like the ending. Enough is enough.
Listen you make a crappy product that people expected to be good and their going to be annoyed. Why worry about it if other people want to protest. As long as they are not keeping you from the game or anything else, just leave them be. The company will either make it right or it will all fade away over time. Complaining about other people complaining just make it last longer. (well just like my post will).
Totally agree. Thanks for raising awareness of Retake Mass Effect 3's cause, hardcoregamer.com!
Consumers have a right to complain about inferior products. Anyone who tries to quell consumer feedback, positive or negative, is either a shill for the corporate machine, or too incredibly... profoundly stupid for words. If you get tired about reading criticism of subject X, you stop. To demand that the debate cease is... as I said, there are no words.
But with media you cannot just say its an inferior product. Mass Effect is not so much a product as it is a piece of literture. The ending was written that way for whatever reason. You may not like it, I may not like it, but it was written that way. I believe it was very well written so well it makes it look like trash. If you look at the "Indoctrination theory" it was written to indoctronate the gamer as well.
People are finally standing up to these companies! If we don't like something then we should let these companies know. We should of stood up to alot of these game companies long ago. But hopefully this is a start and they will start righting their wronging.
I just finished it again. I don't agree with changing the end, I don't agree with the widely accepted theory and I don't think petitions will ever do anything useful, ever. The fact is ending is still a terrible mess and there's F' all that's worth doing about it. Just don't buy Biowares next game. I'm just going to accept that Bioware really messed up on those ten or so minutes. However I won't be taking anyone who says they liked it seriously (honestly, i'm convinced you're trolling) and if you think that's harsh I don't care.
i have yet to beat the game (also playing tales of graces f and sfxt).is the ending that grotesque?..i'm only like 10hrs in and so far it's been a thrill ride.i just can't imagine the ending being that bad, when the game (so far) is great with a level of polish rarely seen (form it's predecessor's).i'm sacred to even beat the game with all this controversy surrounding the endin.
It is a fantastic game with great stories and lots of little details which is part of what makes the ending such a "WTF just happened" kind of moment. So play it, enjoy it, go into the end with no expectations (because you cant prepare for it anyway) and then you will see if you like it or not.
@ xXxSeTTriPxXx I thought just like you did last week. "how bad can it be? why are people SO damn angry, they should get a life and move on!!!!" It was a thrill ride. For some folks, 5 years worth of gaming and tons of hours invested. Great story and characters, but they way they threw it all away was worse than the third matrix film. I just chose to ignore the ending and play multiplayer. Much more satisfying. Even if you don't want them to change the ending, you have to admit that they did a disservice to THEMSELVES by writing such a well written universe, different species, planets, mass relays, biotics, etc...and just pissed it all away with a 10 minute barely interactive scene. Say what you will about Hideo Kojima and cutscenes. He knows how to finish a damn game.
The reason the ending is so bad is because it doesn't fit in with the high quality of the rest of the game. The writing suddenly goes 'loco' as James would say. I was about 15 hours in thinking all the complaints were taken way out of proportion regarding the ending. It just didn't seem like it could be bad. I was loving it. When I finally got there I was unbelievably disappointed. It didn't ruin the game or the rest of the franchise for me though. Despite what people like assume. And it is only the last ten minutes. So enjoy it and hell, put the ending out of your mind. What's SFxT like? Thinking of getting it. Haven't played a fighter since SC4.
Yeah, though I still plan on buying the game I'm also getting mixed feelings about supporting a company that seems to be able to continue or conclude a game's story, or they flat don't care. Are actually insulting to a degree. Considering how they resolved Tali's reveal. And then there was the constant pre-release claims which turned out to be flat out untrue. How is anyone suppose to believe anything from a company that pulls crap like that?
Meh Sloppy writing is sloppy writing, no excuse in the world can hide that fact.
It's not going too far yet. When people start rioting and physically hurting others is when it gets too far. This is nothing, and hell donating to charity shouldn't even be a negative. It's not like a book, movie, play or any other kind of story based media where they'll have to take another year or so to come up with content to address fan's concern, ME can have new endings made in a month slightly more, and then patched right into the game via free/paid DLC. Plus, if someone's satisfied with the current endings, then be satisfied with it. No one's forcing you to like new endings (if they come out), or even get them. I'd say, if new endings come out, then we'd have more satisfied people.
ZOMG! Asking for refunds and filing complaints to the FTC! How uncivil! /s (and no, a couple of death threats does not mean the entire movement is uncivil) Like you said, people have nothing to lose if the dissatisfied get compensation. So why is there a billion times larger stink coming from the people defending ME3 than from the people dissatisfied with the ending.
The ending was a travesty, though. Don't make a series about affecting the outcome with a trilogy without a good ending. ME3 is a shame.
I have more problems with it freezing. Ive never felt so ripped off, it just feels like its unfinished. Dont get me wrong, I love it. But ive had to redo so many things because of it freezing. The auto save has saved me the trouble only a fee times. Last night it froze during multiplayer, had to reset, and found out that im starting from scratch with my trophy progress, like im back down to 0/5000. I want to trade it in, but I always regret it afterwards. I hope for BIOWARES sake that fix all the tech issues. If not, im not buying another one of their games again.
I wont have the popular opinion but here goes: Im at peace with this game. I have the entire franchise played through them multiple times and like many of you I jumped at the chance to get my copy ME3. I played it got to the end beat it and just kind of sat there once I did. The ending is bad without a doubt...but is it the worst Ive ever seen? No. I also dont feel ripped off like some people said they were. Its kind of like one of those movies that was really good up until the end where you just kind of make that face. For me that movie is probably The dark Knight (2nd Nolan batman movie). I wont go into detail and ruin it but there was no reason (IMO) to have two face in that movie. Regardless I still like the movie. I enjoyed ME3, I played it for a little over 45 hours or so (now playing through again on hard and this time actually trying out multiplayer.) I feel as though I enjoyed the game more than those last 10 minutes or so, I dont feel cheated. Im a little disappointed with the ending but Im also convinced that this isnt the "real" ending either, call it a hunch. But to be honest I thought the original ME's ending was a little sparse and underwhelming. Not as bad as the current but it was very breif as I recall. Now whether or not Bioware tries and charge for the ME3 epilogue...that remains to be seen.
just fix the PS3 version of the game.. its really unplayable... i have not even experienced the ending because i wont play beyond the mars mission due to the supper lag and choppiness in the frame-rate... all those reviewrs out there who over look these flaws should be fired.. how on earth can you give a game such a high praise in the graphics department on the ps3 when its clearly broken and buggy.. games like uncharted 3, final fantasy XIII-2, gundam extreme vs and killzone 3 all look far better then mass effect 3 and they all run at about 30-60 frames per second without the fear of crashing my system. only after i finish the game will i be able to complain about the ending like everybody els.

Mass effect 3 had the greatest ending of any game ever made. It is 2nd to none. Its as memorable as tom hanks "forest gump".
I think it's funny, the amount of pissing an moaning that's been going on. This morning, Bioware was trending on twitter in the US and it was primarily people wondering outloud wtf is wrong with these entitled little gamers who are all bent out of shape because of the last 10 minutes of a videogame. Frankly, I think it paints all gamers in bad light. When I see a movie and don't agree with how it went it the end, I don't stomp my feet and demand the company provide an ending more to my liking. It's ridiculous. This started up a hashtag for #ChangeTheEnding where people mock this whole, ridiculous situation by suggesting funny changes to books, movies and videogames. You should check it out. Some are pretty entertaining.
