Universally disliked? How do you figure? Simply because you say it was disliked, or that people pissed and moaned on the forums doesn't actually mean that was the reality. Certainly the sales and critical reception don't back up that claim. There was a vocal group that expressed their dislike of the title compared to Dragon Age Origins, but the game was received very well by critics earning a metacritic score over 80.
Certainly it wasn't as polished or engaging as the first, but to say it was universally disliked - maybe by a particularly vocal group but they hardly made up the majority. The game was received very well by the critics and managed to sell about 2 million. 80% of games released don't even hit 1 million.
I still don't understand this sudden, Bioware hate. Same thing happened to Infinity Ward, same thing happened to Rock Star, etc..etc. Even if you continue to put out above average products, the second you become popular, suddenly it's cool to hate you. Happens with TV, happens with movies, happens with bands and happens with videogames.
After Dragon Age 2 being dumbed down (and stuck in that damn city) and the backlash BioWare had from ME3's ending, I'm really not surprised they want to be told what to do.
There's a fine line between taking on feedback and game design by committee... get someone with a strong voice and who believes in their opinions to make games BioWare! Dammit!
A darker overall tone with an emphasis on struggle and salvation.Decadent Empires crumbling beneath a red sky as the machines of war are driven ever on. Old enemies will band together for a single cause, old dragons will orchestrate a grand play from behind the scenes. An encroaching darkness forces some to madness, others to heroism. We need an Age of Dragons, not some generic city based intrigue with a dash of darkness beyond it's walls. Villains that are vile, heroes that are heroic and the few in between waiting for the smoke to clear. Take us beyond the walls and into the far reaches of the oldest ruins and darkest hollows, the lawless border towns and crumbling spires of decadent city states.
I know that right now a lot of us are still annoyed with the ME3 ending, but I hope that everyone with ideas about what they would like to see in DA3 will take Mark Darrah up on his offer, and kindly post suggestions about what is important to you in the series. I think that is more productive then just bashing DA3 right out of the gate.
I mean ask yourself, do you REALLY want BioWare to stop making games? If the answer is YES, perhaps it is simply time for you to move on from their games. If the answer is NO, take advantage of the fact that the door to communication is open, so let's 'rationally' communicate our feelings upfront. At this point you either cut your loses and move on, or you trust that BioWare has learned some lessons and will do better in the future. If you are concerned that they will let you down again, take the wait and see approach before buying the game.
