Gates to announce something big for 360 at CES?

The Seattle Times has put up word that at coming CES Bill Gates' keynote might have some important announcement about the X360 platform. What exactly? Not known yet but as you can guess, rumours are flying around.

Seattle Times columnist Brier Dudley wrote on December 31, 2007:

"I've speculated on my blog that Microsoft may be preparing to license the Xbox gaming platform to consumer-electronics companies.

In particular, Microsoft could work with Toshiba to develop a digital video recorder with a hard-drive, high-definition HD-DVD drive and Xbox gaming capabilities. They're already allied against Sony and other backers of the Blu-ray DVD format, and Toshiba could help Xbox finally penetrate the Japanese market.

Microsoft could also make a splash by announcing plans to give the Xbox 360 an internal HD-DVD drive, putting it on par with Sony's PlayStation 3 that has a built-in Blu-ray drive."

It could be a built in HD-DVD player or they are announcing the have joined the Blu-ray association.

Or he is going to speak there one last time before retiring.

i hope it's a built in hd-dvd player
and built in wi-fi

Regret3581d ago

Doesn't matter if they wont replace all consoles with new, upgraded, ones.

Microsoft needs to focus on fixing the current Xbox. Hope Microsoft includes a home owners policy with each system, because all those new features means the Xbox will be on long periods of time. Good luck with that....

Wow, an internal HD DVD drive in the 360? That would show Sony. Not! Microsoft is stupid. They released the Xbox 1.5 too soon. The HD DVD drive is worthless in the 360. Sure it could help Toshiba but it will do nothing for the 360. Games won't use it so who cares.

mikeslemonade3581d ago

It's something along the lines of what Bill Gates likes probably because normally he doesn't make the annoucements.

I hope it is finally a built in HD-DVD drive so I can finally pick one up.

ravinash3581d ago

Then its too little, too late.
If this is going as standard then the games won't work on the old system.
Thats what? 10Million 360 owners who need to buy a new machine...basically thats a Xbox next-next gen machine.
Any game made for Xbox 360 will still need to fix on a DVD and work from the DVD...the most they can hope for is to give an option to copy information from the DVD to the hard drive on the new machines only.

PStriple7033581d ago

If they have the built in HD drive....if i was a 360 owner i would be pissed, theres over 14mill 360s out there without an hd drive

ktchong3581d ago (Edited 3581d ago )

The new high-end HD-DVD 360 has a new drive, but all 360 games will still be required to be released in DVDs.

So, if you happen to want to play games and watch HD DVD movies, then you can get the high-end HD DVD model. If you're just a gamer, the HD DVD model offers no additional benefits.

The only way they could start making games that run off hd is to give one to everyone with a 360... One last parting gift from bill gates?
