Dissecting Mass Effect 3's ending

In a game about making choices that have real consequences not having much of a real choice in endings is a kind of defect and failure.

Would you call life a defect and a failure, then? Because no matter how good or bad you are, the end is the same for everyone.

I honestly don't get it. I thought the ending was fine. And I still had a choice, 3 to exact. What am I missing?
