No New Xbox Hardware to be Shown at E3 2012

Microsoft's David Dennis has announced today that no new hardware of the Xbox 360 will be shown at the E3 2012 event. (Xbox 360)

Would be foolish to show case new hardware since MS still have Halo 4 to promote
turokgames  +   848d ago
Agreed, maybe next year?
Nitrowolf2  +   848d ago
That's what I'm thinking. Both MS and Sony I'm betting will have something by next year or 2014. I think MS is gonna focus a lot on Halo 4 and Kinect this year and try to have one last huge push on the 360before they move on.
Muffins1223  +   848d ago
not maybe...yes.Think about it.No good future launch exclusive game for the 360 right now but halo.
sikbeta  +   848d ago
Halo 4 Xbox 3 believe!

:P
tehpees3  +   848d ago
I disagree. Microsoft at least sound to be rolling ahead with their new Xbox. They shouldn't let Nintendo take the stage like that especially since they are likely targeting core gamers.

E3 will most definitely be eating out of Nintendo's hand now. Provided they don't screw up price that is.

Where is EvilDead360 in this thread. He mist have seen it. Why is he not composing a wall of text concerning this being fake news from MS and they will still surprise us all.

http://n4g.com/news/930677/...

There are plenty like that. Over and over again.

I have said repeatedly, REPEATEDLY there would be no new hardware from MS or Sony this year. MS will not release new hardware in the same year or even announce in the same year thier flagship title, HALO 4 - a game I am greatly anticipating, is launching on the 360.

And to those persons going down the dual platform in the same year launch and believed against all common sense that MS would let you purchase HALO 4 on the 360 and then tell you that you paid for the last gen version, time to swallow the red pill.

maybe not "shown" but it might be mentioned, and then properly shown the following year when it's near its release
gamingdroid  +   848d ago
Since the Xbox 360 platform is still going strong it does seem a little premature, but then again there is always early next year to build up hype for the following Fall. At least that is what I'm hoping for as I'm ready!
glennco  +   848d ago
i wouldn't say "going strong" in regards to performance, just sales. i care about performance, i don't have a stake in the sales... the damn thing has sold enough to warrant a successor so bring it on already. i'm tired of playing BF3 with only 24 players but have no desire to get a PC just for 1 game.
gamingdroid  +   848d ago
... and there is nothing wrong with it's performance relative to it's peers?

I have an indirect stake in sales, in that if the product does well, MS will support it better. As it stands, MS has re-invented the dashboard, Xbox Live and a host of other things already. This isn't likely something a company would do without significant profits.

That said, if you care about performance (and I assume hardware) and not sales then PC is the platform for you. It seems to have both!
xtreampro  +   848d ago
"Would be foolish to show case new hardware since MS still have Halo 4 to promote"

That's assuming the Xbox 3 won't be B.C and will launch as soon as it's announced and all existing 360 owners will be forced to buy a $400 Xbox 3 on day 1 and all their 360's magically disappear making all of them unable to play Halo 4.

Which is obviously absurd.

How gullible can people be on this site? It's going to be shown this year, and if not then MS has a nonsensical business plan that should be laughed at.

If Sony doesn't show anything then "lulz" on them too
Plagasx  +   848d ago
You really think MS is going to survive the rest of the year with just Halo 4 and some shitty Kinect titles?
NYC_Gamer  +   848d ago
360 has been doing fine with the limited amount of exclusives.MS will promote Halo 4/Forza and announce some new xbl features/dlc deals.some type of price drop on the 250 gb with kinect bundle is more expected in my opinion instead of new hardware.

Fishy Fingers  +   848d ago
If they dont, and nor do Sony, they're gifting Nintendo a good start with the Wii U.
turokgames  +   848d ago
Which in turn benefits Sony and Microsoft. Competition helps them improve the next-gen products.
@below: very true.

Fishy Fingers  +   848d ago
That's a stretch, hardware wise, I imagine both MS and Sony have that all but buttoned up, they have to have preliminary specs at the very least to provide to developers.
Dlacy13g  +   848d ago
@Fishy Fingers preliminary hardware specs are hardly final specs. Think back to the Xbox 360 and how late in the game they decided to go with 512mb of Ram vs 256mb. I could easly see them deciding after GDC to respec some of what they have preliminarily mapped out... Development can certainly still continue for games with a base set of specs as a road map.

If this really does hold true...and who knows if its truth or just a ruse, MS could be taking the time to redesign some aspect of what they had planned. Could be a smart move, its just really hard to say at this point.
Fishy Fingers  +   848d ago
Perhaps, but I think that story is thrown around a bit too easily, exactly when in the 360s development did Epic come in with that?

Like you said, it's hard to say either way, but it's looking like several 3rd parties have dev kits, Epic recently demoed UE4 on different 'devices', who knows what stage their at, but my guess is they're further along than they'd have us believe.

Indeed, if done correctly I will be buying all my third party games on it.

Indeed Poke. That would be an automatic win for Nintendo. Especially before Christmas, it'll be selling out.

I would hardly consider the WiiU a headstart platform. IMHO I don't believe this 'Leapfrog' tablet offers the gaming community anything.
Drekken  +   848d ago
But really, its not like Wii-U is the jump that 360 and PS3 owners are looking for. It might be a tad bit more powerful than current HD consoles, but its not enough to get my money. No one has solidified third party support will be as strong as it is for MS and Sony...

Plus, remember past gen Nintendo games... Mortal Combat for example how G rated they made them make it. I want a console that supports Blood & Guts.

And the controllers...
gamingdroid  +   848d ago
If MS doesn't release a console next year, it might look like Nintendo has a huge advantage with the Wii U as I think the market is ready for a "reasonably" priced next-generation console.

I'm ready for it, but uncertain if I'm willing to be an early adopter simply because Nintendo has proven to be utterly cr@ptastic at online strategies considering the current state of their online platform and Friend Codes!

Online gaming has turned out to be hugely important to me and I don't generally play Mario and Zelda games.

iamnsuperman  +   848d ago
I think it is up to Nintendo to take the advantage because if they do not its little to no advantage at all. The third parties will be like the 360 and PS3 versions anyway so its up to Nintendo to either secure exclusives or more likely to take advantage of (rumoured) improved specs.
koston3647  +   848d ago
......if they were going to reveal something do you really think they'd tell us?
Fishy Fingers  +   848d ago
Obviously not, but that's when the standard PR line comes into play.. "MS do not comment on blah blah". It's unusual for them to flat out 'lie'.

Maybe well see some next-gen 'software', but no hardware.

Pokemon_Master  +   848d ago
Then nintendo kind of wins E3 by default

I mean imagine if they announce asassins creed 3, gta V, darksiders 2, resident evil 6 as launch titles along with pikmin 3 and yoshis story...........

And then you have big 3ds announcements, and then you have smash bros.......

check mate on that event
Dlacy13g  +   848d ago
Could it also be that MS decided to hold off as they learned some of the final specs for WiiU and don't see it being crazy better than the 360 performance wise? I mean if they feel there is no longer a rush to come to market then why not hold off another year and really flesh out something that hits a homerun?
Pokemon_Master  +   848d ago
No offense but I dont believe that for a second.

Whats more likely is they decided to hold off after they realized they would probably get pwned in terms of news coverage to whatever nintendo is planning......

thats what happened last year
GuyManDude  +   847d ago
This. I'm still baffled that Nintendo hasn't realized this will be last gen all over again in terms of third party support. Devs are "excited to develop and experiment with the hardware". But when the PS4/Xbox? come out and completely dwarf Nintendo's WiiU from a technical capability standpoint, devs will get bored of WiiU's "last gen" graphics and leave it by the wayside.

And even if the devs do support it as strongly as the PS4/Xbox?, which console do you think the COD/Madden/Skyrim type of gamers will buy? The one with inferior graphics and a giant screen controller? Or the normal one with high-end PC graphics?

The WiiU will sell (if priced right), but not to people who buy software. It's 2006 all over again.

next box will be at e3 2012 with a late 2012 release (spring 2013 at the lastest)
BattleTorn  +   848d ago
i keep telling myself this too.

E3 is going to have to come, and pass for me to stop believing!
jetlian  +   848d ago
I just cant see MS allowing NIN to take all the casuals.kinect changed MS view on casuals. 360 success came from being 1st to market cant see them letting that go.

On that bonus round with marcus beer they laughed at him for saying he could see a spring release.

A few things make spring viable. 1. income taxes 2. people have recovered from xmas 3. nintendo doesnt get much of a lead. 4. They come out before sony 5 they have issues fixed and consoles by xmas 6 they have bundles ready for xmas

On that bonus round they were all like what game will it ship with if halo 4 is on 360. Well they must of forgot 360 didnt ship with halo 3

tigertron  +   848d ago
I'll believe this when E3 is over. The only thing I'm getting from this is that MS are downplaying next-gen consoles because they don't want to harm potential sales for this spring. Sony are doing the same thing.

The fact is this gen is in its final days, especially in terms of technology. Ancient 2004 tech. Whilst its produced some amazing looking/playing games that has lasted a great deal of time (thanks to software updates aswell), 2013 is when next-gen should start.

I doubt MS will let Nintendo get a big head start, if they did, then they're foolish.

Halo 4 will be the 360's final curtain call, unless they announce big 360 exclusives for 2013, but I would be surprised if that were the case.

nothing next gen apart from the Wii U will be shown this year. there is absolutely no sense whatsoever in a new Xbox or new PlayStation this year, especially from an economic point of view. said it many times, 2013 reveal, late 2013 / early 2014 release for both companies. though I may be wrong with that last part.

there are AAA titles being developed for PS3/Xbox360/PC for 2013. Sony already have some exclusives penned down for 2013.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft seem to be rushing to launch their new consoles with Nintendo. Wonder why?

bunch of other examples, but i'm too lazy to look up.

You're talking about WiiU. See Unreal Engine presentation from GDC at 0:35. Does this look like next gen? Not at all. Maybe they'll have 1080p but that's all.

Good point, through those 2-3 seconds (of work in progress on a launch title) we can estimate everything there is to know about the wii U.

I'm so ready for next gen. I got my 360 on launch day and a PS3 shortly after it's launch. They are both old and outdated. I want more!
mayberry  +   848d ago
PS3 upcoming games for me are too many, and too exciting to want another console. I bought a $600+ launch 60g(still going strong, its on 6+ hrs a day!), Starhawk is amazing, Last of us looks amazing, dust 514 looks cool, the last guardian is a "must buy", gt6 in development for the ps3, killzone 4 in development for the ps3, indie games like "journy" etc... I really dont want a ps4 anytime soon friend! btw, I love my 360 too!
TheNocturnus  +   847d ago
I do.
_Aarix_  +   847d ago
Outdated in terms of what? Graphics? Because I think the graphics are still amazing looking on consoles. I don't see how people are ready for a new console especially when games like Halo 4, borderlands 2, tomb raider, gtav, assassins creed 3 and Bioshock infinite are coming out. Can you truly say you can afford all these games?
OcularVision  +   847d ago
You might not notice it or care, but the recent Halo games have been sub-720p @ ~25fps. KillZone was at 720p and 30fps. Most games coming out will still look amazing, but when you play it, it will feel the same.
GroundsKeeperJimbo  +   847d ago
Even if graphics were at current PC Ultra-settings, and they are far from it, their are still lots of hardware in both consoles that need upgrading.

RAM comes to mind. Both consoles are sorely lacking it. If only we had a GB imagine how big maps could be made. Loading times would be halved. More items/levels/customization could be put in across the board.

Full HD is also an area that would be nice to have taken care of.

I'm sure there's more but I just woke up and need to eat something. :]

Cheers

What else would you expect them to say though? Of course they are saying that.

Looks like nintendo is going to rule E3 this year
WildStyles  +   848d ago
You also gotta factor in a game like the next GTA which will be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360. A game like that is going to be a huge seller. Neither company is like Nintendo where they have to launch a new console in order to receive GTA 5. 2013 for a reveal and launch would make sense for both companies.
Titanz  +   848d ago
Nintendo's been profitable with the NDS and Wii, since day one
Microsoft and Sony are recouping early losses, so they'll want to prolong this current generation.

For experienced gamers ("core" gamers), I'm surprised about the lack of information ya'll know about the Wii U. First of all - developers will have the choice to use "free" game engines to develop their games (Havok, Autodesk, Kynapse, and another I can't seem to remember) onto the Wii U.

Secondly, Near field communication technology will be included into the Wii U. It'll be great for consumers, and developers will want to take advantage of this tech.

There's also the fact that the Wii U is BC with Wii software and hardware (Wii remotes, Wii balance board, Wii zapper, Wii motion plus, Classic controller pro, etc.). And let's not forget about the Wii Upad; another gateway into the casual consumers heart, with the appeal of an experienced gamer's method of controls.

1080p, reformed online service (no friend codes)... what is it that you want, exactly?

I think a price cut will be announced at E3 and, of course, some new game titles. I also think that the 250GB console will get the 320GB hard drive as standard later in the year. Reckon the Wii U will have a big battle this year against an aggressive Microsoft and Sony.

That could be interesting. I wonder what kind of games they have planned to help ease the wait then. I guess since Halo 4 still has to release as well as GTA5 and other games, the announcement of a new console may overshadow those games. I'm not too disappointed though, I'm having a lot of fun with the 360 right now.
SITH  +   847d ago
They said the same exact same thing at this time when the Xbox 360 was announced.
krazykombatant  +   847d ago
Well if they don't plan on announcing that the new xbox is in the works, then they better have a crap ton of games to announce.

I'm not saying exclusives are the game breaker when it comes to a console, but there is a very small list of 3rd party games I want this year in comparison to last year. Therefore, I I hope they have more in the works than just Halo 4...
