Why Persona 3 Is The Best JRPG on the PlayStation 2: Part 1

Default Prime: "I've just recently finished the best JRPG I’ve played since Final Fantasy 7. It’s been a long time since a game has moved me so much. Persona 3 could best be described as a RPG with social simulation elements that came out in 2007 for North America. But that would be a disservice to the complexity and depth of the game as there’s a whole lot more involved. I’m currently stationed in Asia and I’ve found myself thinking back on the experience I had during my recent play-through of Persona 3. It was so good that my wife, who’s only finished three games in her life, played the entire 100+ hour campaign with me." (Atlus, Culture, Persona 3, PS2)

I actually liked P4 better. o_o I tried to get into P3 for a long while, sank about 30 hours into it, but it never really captivated me the way Persona 4 did. Plus before I could finish P3 I got spoiled on the ending which is a huge killer based on what happens (kinda hard to play through after that knowledge lol).

That's a real shame :( but despite having read this in all its spoiler-ridden glory, I actually want to play it now! Just a shame it's quite expensive on PSP/Vita...

Persona 4 personally had the better story but that does not make Persona 3 a slouch though. The game was masterful & really put the series on the map for us gamers in the west. If the persona team can duplicate that magic for the current/next gen consoles than that would be a godsend.

As you can see from my avatar i am a big fan of the series so i look forward to see what Persona 4 The Golden will offer.

Wierd that some folks would think P3 is the best JRPG on the PS2. There are some mighty contenders for that title -- Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Rogue Galaxy, FF X, DQ VIII... just to name a few.

P3 is a good game, but declaring it "best" is a bit much, for me. Still the article does a fine job of pointing out why P3 was so good, in retrospect.

Hey Ulf, I'm the writer of the article and I really enjoyed Shadow Hearts, FFX, and DQVIII. There was just something about Persona 3's story and characters that put it at the top for me! I'll also be describing some of the other elements that made it such a compelling experience in the upcoming two parts. Thanks for reading!

Lol ok this is a joke right?

I'm partial to Digital Devil Saga 2, but Persona 3 is probably my second favorite game. Followed by Persona 4, Final Fantasy X, Xenosaga, and Suikoden.

And why not: Xenosaga. You will not find a more complex story-driven game.

I love P3FES more than I love P4 Lizzy ftw.

Oooh, makes me want to go order Persona 3!

I had a great time with Persona 3 FES, 207 hours to be exact, but it never really took the place of Shin Megamai Tensei Nocturne in my opinion.
