Mass Effect 3 Fans, Would You Kindly Shut Up?

Gaming Unwrapped Writer Ryan "Rdawg" T Writes - "Mass Effect 3 hit store shelves on March 6th. Finally, all the fans of the game were allowed to play the third installment of the series! You would expect them to be happy, right? As it would turn out, there is a big portion of the fan base that is not happy, and are even openly protesting the title. On March 11th, I posted an article called “Mass Effect 3 Fans are Dumb, Petitions Circulating Regarding Ending“. It started out as nothing more than a mere news post with a couple of my “finely worded” opinions thrown in, but based on the reactions it got, I figured I would expand a bit."

I feel like the ending suite the tone of the game, but you can't compare Mass Effect to other games. It's not really like other narrative driven games in most senses. I can agree that all this uproar is a bit much, but it definitely has some validity.

Bimkoblerutso4420d ago

It's not that people shouldn't be disappointed with the ending...I sort of thought it was crap, myself.

But to even suggest that Bioware needs to actually go back and change it is just the worst kind of childishness imaginable...and retarded to boot, if only from a logistical standpoint.

crxss4420d ago

"Do they really think that Bioware is going to hear their cries, and literally release a patch that gives them access to a better ending? Last time I checked, that is not how game development works."

guess the author's never heard of the DLC for ME2... content that added to the ending. and as we all know, bioware/ea are dlc wh0res

Army_of_Darkness4420d ago

I think the series is a boring ass rpg, 3rd person, next Gen star trek shooter!
and I'm glad it ended:)

Christopher4420d ago

Agree. The mistake was made, but to go back and just change it now just because people didn't like it would be a knee-jerk reaction and a waste of resources that affects their other titles and future DLC.

I do feel that the ending was extremely anti-climactic and left me wondering what the hell happened to everyone I cared about that was still alive (or whether they are alive or not). But don't go back and redo the whole ending just to sate my desire, just use the reaction to it going forward.

teething4420d ago (Edited 4420d ago )

I 100% agree with the article. Gamers need to stop crying. It is Bioware's game, suck it up.

The problem here was created by Bioware however... blame them for actually listening to fans. That gets you nowhere because the vocal minority means little... and once they see you listening... they will start bitching and demanding like spoiled brats.

For example:
"We don't like elevators in ME1." Bioware listens and ME2 has load screens. "We don't like load screens, give us elevators."
or
Data collected on ME2 gameplay showed that most ME2 gamers skipped most dialogue. In ME3 we have less dialogue options. Gamers complain, yet gamers are to blame.

Excellent post. I agree absolutely. I mean, I actually thought the ending was a great send off to the game. It may not have been as good as I thought it'd be, but it was good nonetheless. People have taken this BioWare and Mass Effect hate a bite too far- it's disrespectful. I mean, the developers work three years on an excellent game and this is how the fans respond. THEY SERIOUSLY EXPECT A PATCH. And they'd also expect BioWare to release it for free, and they'd also expect it to be as high quality as the rest of the game. WHAT THE FRACK?!

Even if people DON'T like the ending, there's no use whining about it so much. They're being disrespectful, and if they actually think BioWare will change the ending, they're just downright stupid.

And it's not about the destination, it's about the journey. The entire game is mind blowing and touching and perhaps one of the best games of this generation. Even if the ending isn't satisfactory for some people, 30 minutes can't ruin the other 30 hours of awesomeness.

Sad, really sad...

omi25p4420d ago (Edited 4420d ago )

Being disrespectful?? If I pay full price for a game that I have devoted so much to and money too only to receive what is possibly the worst anti-climax in a game EVER then I sure as hell am going to complain the developer about it.

Even if they don't change it im still telling them then ending is awful and giving them constructive criticism.

If everyone was to do as you do and just Put up with it then the gaming industry would be even more of a money grabbing scam then it already is.

If you were a true fan of the series and really got invested in character development your telling me you wouldn't be p*ssed that you literally don't have a clue what happens to the majority of your squad, the colonies and the entire galaxy after the ending. The only thing you know is the fate of 3 random team mates.

Shubhankar4420d ago (Edited 4420d ago )

I have played all three mass Effect games, read all the novels, read all the comics. I've finished the first two games four times each and am on my second playthrough of ME3. Hell, I've even played the iOS game. So I'm pretty deeply invested in the franchise. I love the franchise like hell, and like all other hardcore Mass Effect fans, I have a deep emotional attachment to all the characters.

Now that that's out the way- I agree that the ending could have been much better. I, for one, didn't think it sucked, but I do acknowledged the fact that it leaves a lot to be desired. But I also know that the path that led me to that ending was mind blowing an unforgettable. I will never, ever in my life forget the 35 hours of gameplay that Mass Effect 3 gave me that ultimately led me to the ending. Because no ending can be bad enough to ruin those beautiful 35 hours.

And sure, everyone has a right to express their opinions. If you didn't like the ending- just say so! But to actually have the nerve to ask BioWare to CHANGE the ending? That's downright crazy. It's BioWare's universe- they created it, they created the characters, they created the story, they created the backstory, and they developed it all. The ending is theirs to write, not ours. If we don't like it, we HAVE to put up with it. There's nothing we can do but voice our opinions, and everything we do that goes beyond that IS disrespectful, because then we're not acknowledging the fact that BioWare made a great game nonetheless. Again I say this- no ending can be bad enough to ruin a game as good as Mass Effect 3.

This is more hate than indignation. The BioWare and Mass Effect hate has been bubbling for a long time, and now it's gotten out of hand. It's so much out of hand that some people are even seeming retarded. Their demands are unreasonable, and a LOT of the hate is unjustified.

crxss4420d ago

^Shubhankar has been indoctrinated. read all the novels, comics, played the iOS game and enjoyed the ME3 ending? clearly indoctrinated.

omi25p4420d ago

ME3 Is easily the best game in the series until the last 15 seconds.

SPOILERS

If the rumours about: Indoctrination are true and there is a DLC or something to be released then fine but if the ending is actually an ending then im disappointed.

Chuk54420d ago

I still think it's the best in the series.

Perjoss4420d ago

ME1 will always be the best for me, they simply streamlined too much after the first one. Instead of improving the Mako exploration sections of the game they lazily removed them and replaced with (/cry) planet scanning.

Also in ME1 leaning more towards paragon or renegade actually opened up different dialogue options in conversations. Spending skill points upon level up was also much more in depth. Seriously, skill point stuff in 3 feels like it was designed by someone who has never played a video game.

Dont get me wrong though I still love 2 and 3, all 3 are amazing games, I just wish there was more sci fi RPG games around.

--Onilink--4420d ago

maybe Bioware didnt like ME1 because the ending of ME3 basically contradicts the entire plot of ME1...

Shubhankar4420d ago

It's still the best for me, though the other two are ALMOST as good.

crxss4420d ago

if the ending was an indoctrination and shepard waking up at the end is him actually waking up before the conduit (having not reached it yet) then i might be more pissed. all that would mean is BW gave us a game without an ending at all (a series ender ending in a cliffhanger... just for DLC to finish it lol)

jetlian4420d ago (Edited 4420d ago )

Seems that way. Shepard doesnt do anything in any of the endings. Only the destroy one does he come back.

He was just dreaming those endings. Destroy gave him that reason to keep fighting which is why he awakens

I can see DLC coming with a real ending

YES. And great point bringing up Bioshock. I reached that and thought "well, that kinda sucked" and... carried on. Same thinng I'm doing with ME. It's sad, but not as sad as telling the creators they created the wrong thing because it's not what I wanted.

Fuzrum4420d ago

If you bothered to do some research, nobody (well practically nobody) is saying this is a bad game. In almost every post, they claim 99.9 % of the game is amazing. But that last kick in the nuts at the end really...well it's a kick in the nuts. I don't think I need to explain the analogy. Anyway, also we know we're not entitled. At least I do. I'm petitioning to them for an epilogue DLC for better closure and quite frankly a better explanation of the endings. And in that epilogue I want to see some of the ramifications of the all the decisions I've made throughout the series. Because as it stands: they don't add up to squat.
