Having been on the radar for quite some time, Illfonic’s Nexuiz is finally available to download for Xbox 360 via the Xbox LIVE Arcade, and is coming soon to PlayStation 3 and PC. Having begun life as a community project based on a modified version of the QUAKE engine, the original launch of Nexuiz was as a groundbreaking free-to-play title. The popularity of the original Nexuiz lead to the interest from Illfonic, and with that all had changed: using the CryENGINE 3 as it’s basis, Nexuiz looks every bit the aggressive modern arena based first-person shooter (FPS) that it should to have a publisher such as THQ backing it’s launch.
Nexuiz launched as a PC and console game 10 years ago, but the downfall of THQ lead to problems for the inspirational title.
Remember Nexuiz, the arena first-person shooter pulled from Steam three years ago after publisher THQ went bust? It's back.
Developer IllFonic has self-published the game on Steam, where it costs £7.99 (it's £3.99 until 22nd March).
Didn't get around to playing it until after the community died. Great to see it back.
The aftershock of THQ's dissolution continues, as servers for the Xbox 360 version of Nexuiz have been shut down. Developer Illfonic announced the news on its Facebook page, noting that the servers were being run by THQ and "cannot be maintained anymore." The PC servers, however, will remain online courtesy of Illfonic itself.
That's a shame, I loved this game but guess I won't be able to complete the achievements now.
