Vessel Review - Actiontrip

Actiontrip:
When a glitch prevents you from defeating the game's final boss and the only thing you feel is relief, I'd say it's a pretty good indication that you haven't been having much fun. But unlike the silly games you usually play, Vessel isn't exactly about 'fun'. It's more about pumping blood into your atrophied, "pew-pew" obsessed brain. And let me tell you, it's a painful process. In Vessel, you're the rat in the maze and the game plays you (Okay, that just freaks me out. - Ed. Vader).

I may end up giving Vessel a try after all! I thought Dead Space 3 was much better than what many people suggested, it still had a creepy atmosphere, jump scares, but with added action. I'm OK with that

kreate3576d ago

ppl in the industry blame dead space 3 for the failed sales of alien:colonial marines.

TheDude793576d ago (Edited 3576d ago )

Which sounds kind of silly because having played Alien: Colonial Marines, I can tell you it's because that game was just not very good. Dead Space 3 was leaps and bounds better than Alien: Colonial Marines, it's not even comparable. All of this stings me to say because I had such high hopes for A:CM, and if there is one thing I enjoyed about it was that it actually did a good job paying homage to the movies as far as references goes. But yeah, A:CM is the only one to blame (and Gearbox) for the poor sales of A:CM, IMHO.

kreate3576d ago

@thedude

I agree colonial marines is not that great. but the sales were so bad, I guess they had to blame something.

the claim was that dead space 3 came out like a week or two before alien. so ppl who played dead space 3, played alien colonial marines and felt it was crappier than it should have been.

TheDude793576d ago (Edited 3576d ago )

@kreate

Keep in mind, there was a ton of negativity slowly seeping out prior to the launch of A:CM which may have deterred many from pre-ordering or going out an buying Day 1. Then when the floodgates opened and all the abysmal reviews and negative publicity (which probably was far worse than any that fell upon Dead Space 3) started pouring out, that probably impacted sales more than anything else. There is hope however for fans of the Alien franchise with Alien: Isolation looking better and better with each showing. Here's hoping its the Alien game fans have been waiting for!

kreate3576d ago

im hoping the aliens isolation's game pace wouldn't be too slow.

I know its not a action game but im hoping its not just running around not doing anything.

so far it looks ok. hoping to be better though.

Yeah, Vessel had two surprises! Just a slow burn at the beginning.

Randostar3576d ago

Playing Dead Space 3 on Impossible on Coop is actually pretty fun.

bmbnbs3576d ago

I wouldn't mind giving co-op a whirl, but I don't know if I ever will.

Lots of cool games. Never played any of the Dead Space games, I guess I'll start with the one they offer

maniacmayhem3591d ago

Dang Heavy...Dead Space 3 is the worse one to start off with.

Transporter473591d ago

I feel like the series went from best to worst

1-2-3 lol

maniacmayhem3591d ago

@Transported

I feel the exact same way. It's shame because usually video game sequels get better (at least they are supposed too) but Dead Space literally got worse as it got further and further away from what made the original so fantastic.

Part 3 for was just a former shell of what 1 was and I couldn't even make it to the end without returning it to Gamefly.

CaptainObvious8783591d ago

3 was definitely the worst.

Had none of the creepy atmosphere the 1st one had.

A great example of when catering to the casual market back fires.

PhucSeeker3591d ago

Hell , even the one on iOS/Android is better than 3 .

mikeslemonade3591d ago

Pretty much best to worst for Bioshock, Gears, and Mass Effect also.

HellzAssassin3591d ago

Agreed with pretty much everyone. I'm adore the hell out of the original Dead Space. And even DS2 was incredible as well. DS3... killed it for me. I never even bothered to get platinum, let alone play it more than once. DS1 & 2; I've got 10+ playthroughs on each.

bouzebbal3590d ago (Edited 3590d ago )

I platinumed the first one and almost did with the second one and to me the second one is the very best of them all.
i only played DS3 demo but i dont think it can top DS2.
i'll definitely DL it and try it but the demo with snow and daylight was a terrible set up for the franchise.

TowerFall and Strider? Hell yeah!!

christian hour3590d ago

Dead Space 1 hit al the right notes, the latter games went the resident evil evolution route and began to focus more on action and blockbuster set peice elements and less on immersion and pacing. Such a shame :(

I almost bought Strider several times in the last 3 months but always convinced myself to hold off. Delighted I did :D Just bought Valiant Hearts so that'll keep me busy until next tuesday :)

mr2333590d ago

Dead Space 3 was definitely not as scary as the first, or as good as the second. It is more of an action game and much less of a horror game. But, it wasn't a terrible game and is certainly worth playing especially for free.

TheFutureIsBlue3591d ago

You can get DS 1&2 for cheap. I wouldn't pass them up! Dead Space>Resident Evil(new games anyways) IMO.

bouzebbal3590d ago

you can indeed compare DS to RE4 5 and 6 and DS1&2 ARE way better than any of these but by any mean you can compare DS to Code Veronica and before cause DS is no survival horror it's a TPS action game.

admiralvic3591d ago

I would suggest playing the earlier ones, since Dead Space features a linear story (so you're going to be confused if you know nothing of the previous titles) and 3 was a departure from what we saw in 1 and to a lesser extent 2.

ziggurcat3591d ago

@xheavyx:

don't start with 3. if you're going to play dead space, the only one you really need to play is the first one, and it's dirt cheap to buy.

johndoe112113591d ago

"Lots of cool games. Never played any of the Dead Space games, I guess I'll start with the one they offer"

How the hell do you get disagrees for a comment like that????? What the hell is there to disagree to?

LAWSON723590d ago

Dead Space 3 is terrible, and you can tell why people are disagreeing by just reading the replies

Muzikguy3590d ago (Edited 3590d ago )

Don't start off with the 3rd game, it was terrible! Number one was my favorite

@Transported
I completely agree with that

@mikeslemonade
I agree with that also

cellur1113590d ago

That's a pretty bad idea. Dead space 3 is the worst and you would have no idea whats going on because 1 and 2 are pretty crucial to the story.

callahan093590d ago

Damn! I just bought Strider :(

That's the thing with PS+. Sometimes you buy a game, and then very shortly after you could have got it free on PS+ haha. This has surprisingly not happened very often to me, actually. Probably because I don't buy that many downloadable games. But I was bored and I tried the Strider demo and it was so awesome I had to keep playing, so I bought it. Oh well.

AceBlazer133591d ago

Strider, Muramasa, Dead Space and Tower fall Ascension, can't wait to play those.Not so much the Dead Space but hey it's free.

diehardmetallicafan3591d ago

its weird but ive been playing muramasa rebirth for the last week after seeing it free on ps+... did australia get something early for once?

xilx3591d ago

Does Australia operate off the EU store? (Or maybe Asia?) EU's had Muramasa free for PS+ since the end of April it looks like. The list posted here is for North America, EU is getting the same list except LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes in place of NA's Muramasa.

diehardmetallicafan3590d ago

that would probably be it. also muramasa rebirth is really addictive!

-Ghost3591d ago

Nice update for me as I don't own any of these. Great month.

Keith223591d ago (Edited 3591d ago )

Was going to buy the two PS4 games when they came out, great there free now also Lego game for the Vita :D

EDIT: Just realised this was a US article to avoid confusion here is what Europe are getting also Doki Doki Universe is cross play so 3 PS4 games this month !

Entering PS Plus:

2nd July: TowerFall Ascension
2nd July: Strider
2nd July: Dead Space 3
2nd July: Vessel
2nd July: LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes
