Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 Mods = Pain in the Rear

Loot Ninja is sure you've seen Tycho over at Penny Arcade rant on the modding in the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3. Basically, he thinks it's crap that you need a USB flash drive (or other memory card type) to copy the mods from your PC to the PS3. Loot Ninja could care less about this. Who doesn't own a PC and some sort of memory card these days? It's not that big a step. It's not completely necessary either. If you try to play online with someone using a mod, it will be automatically downloaded to your machine.

What bugs them is that you need to copy one mod at a time via your USB drive. Imagine wanting 25 mods, but needing to make 25 trips with your USB key. Not very fun.

This has nothing to do with the PS3 being good or bad, so it shouldn't turn into a flame fest (but when has that ever worked here).

This is Epic's implementation of mods for the game on PS3. It's the first time it's been done, so there are growing pains involved. Just pointing out some optimizations that need to happen sooner rather than later for mods to become more mainstream on consoles.

SlappyMcTaint5956d ago

Man, this is just drivel... let's make something out of nothing...

What they fail to point out is that most UT3 players will be adding mods as they come out -and it's not like there are many right now -nor will they come out in a flood.

Another useless article. Kudos to you.

Seraphim5956d ago (Edited 5956d ago )

actually, imo this isn't making something out of nothing. It is a pain and I've read numerous complaints from people who are having problems getting the files onto their PS3. For some reason when booting Unreal 3 it wasn't reading the mod files from my USB drive even though everything was done accordingly... So a better way of implementing these mods into the game should be configured; at least imho. And You should be able to download multiple mods onto your USB Drive/Memory Card and download all at once if you want to. Instead of having to go back n forth... But as someone else mentioned, growing pains, and that's all this really is. I just hope Epic takes it upon themselves to implement a better way of distributing and getting these mods onto a PS3 from PC... But it's certainly a valid point imo, and something that needs to be brought to the attention of those who can do something about it...

Bu..but..buh..TeH RROD ZoMG!!

The simple fact remains : Mods are batter than no mods at all.

Jack Who? Jack Ass obviously.

Chaos Striker5956d ago

Cell has nothing to do with the PS3 + UT3 Mods. Try actually reading for once in your life.

TwissT5956d ago

Heard that joke already, funny the first time, second time not really.

BrianC62345955d ago

More like Bu-bye Xbox 1.5. Epic hates Xbox Live. Say goodbye to Gears of War after the second game is out. Can you say PS3 exclusive? I bet you can.

As for the crybabies, give Epic some time. One mod at a time is still better than the 360 will get, which is zero mods.

but then again if mods weren't an option people would be complaining as well. [eye roll]

Tech Focus - Motion Blur: Is It Good For Gaming Graphics?

Opinion is divided on this one for sure! Is motion blur good for gaming? Why do developers include it?

I hate any game that has motion blur and the first thing I do is switch off the motion blur in games. It just makes me nauseous.

XentaJones2124d ago

motion blur makes me sick... so its off.

OpenGL2124d ago

I agree with Alex here, many implementations are terrible but when it is done right it improves the experience.

TheSplooge2124d ago

I always turn it off. Along with depth of field.

Those plus vignetting, chromatic aberration, and film grain.

Let’s be Honest, DOOM Looks like the Best First Person Shooter We’ve Seen in Ages

Alex from GamersFTW writes:

“In all seriousness though, I feel like DOOM’s success will be measured by how much the game has to offer. Graphically it’s looking spectacular, and I’m sure the latest multiplayer trailer caught all of our attention. Personally, the game is beginning to remind me of those late nights playing Unreal Tournament 3, which is totally a good thing. This, in addition to the promise of user-generated content, is making DOOM look like the best first-person shooter I’ve seen in ages.”

The campaign looks brilliant, like a true nostalgia trip to the original DOOM titles of old! The multiplayer equally looks like a trip down memory lane to fast-paced and frantic arena games a-la Quake, and honestly the MP REALLY makes me want to the get game at launch to capitalise on the hype. Problem is I'm not overly fussed with multiplayer typically in games, they can get weary after a while, and buying a game solely for its MP is risky - especially on console - as it's heavily dependant on the community!

Rock to my left, hard place to my right..

EDIT: On the MP note, does anyone know if it'll have bots available, similar to Unreal Tournament 3? I still give that a quick play time to time with bots (and all the mad mutators).

c00lvilKid692955d ago

I’m exactly the same, usually multiplayer games are of no interest to me. But DOOM has sparked my curiosity, especially as someone who used to enjoy multiplayer first person shooters like Quake/Unreal. Totally understand your concerns about it being heavily dependant on the community, too. Which is just another reason they should include bots, in case the numbers need to be made up. I’m hoping the community will be good, considering the creative freedoms they’re handing over with the SnapMap thing.

Its basically a "console" ahead, in terms of graphics, of another shooter called Homefront thats getting ready to release. LOL

wakeNbake2955d ago

mezati992955d ago
