MP1st - DICE Gameplay Designer Gustav Halling, settles concerns of the upcoming Battlefield 3 DLC, Close Quarters.
I keep getting "page not found". @Mister_V It's working now. OT:It never hurts to have a little variety but i understand why some people would get mad BF is known for large map and huge battles and no cramped up gameplay.
Should be working now. We've had this strange issue a couple times :S Sorry bout it.
Does anyone know how Close Quarters will differ from standard TDM matches?
Well not sure how I feel about close quarters in bf3 but I know for sure there shall be many campers to shoot down
The only reason why Op Metro was popular was because it was easy to level up and get points on. A lot of boosters used that map also, but in "Battlefield" terms, it's the worst map. Also, I hope they have a new gametype for the DLC, I don't want to just play TDM on the new maps. At least have a Search and Destroy type of game mode so people won't camp in the maps.
umm... you mean Rush? Yeah, I imagine Rush will be in there.
Rush maps tend to be big so I doubt rush would work in these environments. It'll be 8v8 so I would like the game mode to be very competitive. almost counter strike-like
Have you played Squad Rush? That's 4 on 4 in a small environment and it works just fine. I'm sure it can be scaled without any real issues.
I like all types of maps for all sorts of reasons. I LOVE OP Metro because it has some of the best shoot-outs I've seen in any FPS ever (no I'm not new to games.), so please don't act like the only reason people play it is to grind. The comparisons to COD, that some people make, are just ignorant. BF3 would play completely different even if it was on an exact replica of a COD map. Besides who cares? Likely the people that complain most are the ones who play COD with their friends just as much as BF3, but for people like me who only play BF3, I can't complain with getting as much variety as possible in the gameplay experiences. and of course: “ If you only play vehicles, Armored Kill is coming.”
Maybe they can add in gamemodes like Search and Destroy for the CQ maps.
Bro, rush IS S&D
Nope. The lack of respawns is what sets game/modes like Search&Destroy and CS apart. Without it, there is no incentive to not act like a jackass. No punishment for playing recklessly.
The ONLY reason the stats show this, DICE, is because you can get MASSIVE points and level up a few times in ONE match. It's complete bull that in a Battlefield game in which teamwork is "essential", this gametype and map combo rewards players for running, shooting, and dying. What's even more ridiculous is that these players are rewarded MORE POINTS than their team playing counterparts on other, less chaotic, maps.
This, and you can also easily up your K/D ratio in operation metro, because of all those medics running around and reviving you. Because of this almost everyone ends up getting more kills than deaths.
Close quarter is popular on BF3 because if you cant get in a squad you have an 8mile hike to find the battle, an for noobs that might be an 8mile hike to get killed straight away. I loved the level design in Bad2 it was spot on for me, also vehicles were much easier to control/more fun too.
With infinite sprint (and the sprint boost) and constant vehicle spawns, its MAYBE a 30 second hike at the MOST on the larger maps (and this is if you don't get in a squad and choose not to spawn in a spawn vehicle or flag point). Try BF2 with a sprint meter, vehicles default spawn times longer, and you can ONLY spawn on the squad LEADER. BF3 has already been "noobed-friendly" for movement across large maps. The long walk ENCOURAGES smart play, and not COD arcade instant action. COD has it's thing and that is fine (I used to play a shit ton), but BF3 shouldn't have to change the gameplay just because some players rush in and die.
Well in bf3 there is an option where you can only spawn on squad leaders
I have yet to find a server that has employed that option. Since it is defaulted off, 99% of the ranked servers haven't touched it.
You'll only spawn at squad leader if you play HC
in rush, there is no hike to the action, it's all right there, but expands as you progress in conquest, you spawn near a point, close enough to get it and hold it down or rush to the next. there'll be less action intiially, but once both teams meet up it's constant choke points squad deathmatch isn't close quarters and is constantly going full speed jizzy has never played battlefield for more than 2 minutes, otherwise he would've never made that post.
I *really* want to see what that "Armored Kill" map looks like.. It's supposed to be extremely massive.. I just hope that they don't ruin it by making it look all bland looking like the map, "Sharqi Peninsula" It needs to look impressive.. I want it to be the best looking map in the game.. & it should have lots of vehicles as well, 'cause we're obviously going to need transport whenever possible. :)
Bring back Quad Bikes!
why not call them atv's or 4 wheelers? never heard someone in real life say quad bike...
Don't worry, the maps in Armored Kill will be 3km x 3km. The catch is that the playable area will be 20ft x 20ft. Technically the map is still big though!
Dont like this at all, Dice can defend it all they want but BF is shamefully turning into COD.
They can still be DICE while offering more options for fans
Unfortunately though, the more 'diverse' a Battlefield game gets, it means the less true BF-gameplay that the old BF fans will get. Which is a shame, since COD fans will not only have COD, but they'll have stuff in BF too! While BF fans will have about half of a BF game for themselves.
Don't like BF3 then side with ARMA3. The next military tactical FPS series in line. I do believe you are right in your theory, but there is still some hope. Its not all CoD. Gameplay is at least ten fold better from what I have played. Maps I don't like many of the new ones. Feel small. Close Quarters map = even smaller? Blah... The thing DICE has done right is the action in Battlefield 3. When I play I am engaged and ready for battle. I feel anxious as heck to knife someone in the game. Just feels so damn good and satisfying to do so. Maps need improvement. Metro. While I dislike the first spawn area(rush mode). As you can be killed on the spot. There is no cover really in that segment/area. The map itself while narrow isn't bad at all. Design is great. Every other map while some are "big" they are lacking something. They feel empty. I don't know exactly what is missing, but that is just how they make me feel when playing them. Its not about close quarters at all.
What Battlefield has turn into... meh.. Single player games are my last hope
Dang, I wanted some forest/snow maps. :(
I'm not surprised since you can't really do a propper BF battle on consoles with only 12 on 12 with those huge ass maps.
true. I thoroughly enjoy Noshahr Canals and Operation Metro because they are just right for 12 vs 12. Seine Crossing on Conquest is also very nice. I play on console so yes. The thing is though as big as Caspian Border is, I enjoy it too because in Conquest the flags are concentrated tightly into a common area.
The core Battlefield game should have stayed on PC; and they should have made a Battlefield 3: Modern Combat for consoles. And not have taken any ideas from COD for either game.
I'd have preferred a similar version to what PC gamers got, with 64-player multiplayer and all.
Nosehair Canals and Firestorm are my fav maps.
I play rush because i play on ps3. 12 on 12 in conquest just seems too empty.
I play 75% of my BF3 time on Team deathmatch. I love the game alot. cannot wait for these close quarters squirmishes
I just love MP1st.com They get all the inside scoop.
I was thinking of a sort of Breach and Clear type of game. Where its 8v8/16v16, 8 inside of a building (hotel, cruise ship, skyscraper,ALCATRAZ etc..) and you and the squad have to breach and clear all rooms until you kill everyone one the opposite team. Maybe have a Night level when you need the flash lights/night vision. Maybe "terrorists" cut the power on a huge Cruise Ship. Imagine the team work that is needed to complete this match. A mic would be more than needed! Extra XP if no one on your squad dies. If you die there would be a sort of spectator mode. I'm thinking of a sort of 1 life thing. Once you die, thats it. So having a good medic in the Assault Class on your team would be crucial. The Recon Class can maybe have a little UAV robot that can go underneath doors to see if anyone is inside. The Engineer Class can open doors quietly. The Support class can . And the Support Class to place c4 on doors to blow them up. Right now I'm just typing everything that comes to mind. lol What do you guys think? I know it's not the "Norm" but When I think of (Don't Kill Me) Zombies in COD, That wasn't the norm and it's one of the most played modes. But then again I'm not a Battlefield Vet. I started playing it on PS2 BF:Modern Combat. So maybe changing the game up would ruin it. I would love it though.
The gameplay you said reminded me of Rainbow Six. But I wouldn't mind some of that in BF3, since after all Rainbow Six is one of the top 3 shooters in my life. :) - Flashy
Operation metro is fun to play whether or not its not "battlefield" norm, there are still plenty of huge maps to play..
They shouldnt have to defend it, war is not all about open fields! If you dont want it, wait for the next dlc. Na, people will find something to bitch about with that one too.
Was he also defending why they havn't talked about the PS3 input lag? We have yet to have an update on that in months.
they havent updated the game at all since the B2K DLC...im assuming that they are gonna release the dlc along with some big patch...
This DLC is stricly for TDM if you dont like it dont buy it & wait for Armored Kill but ill be getting it day 1 cause i love TDM in BF3.
If you read the article then you will notice that though TDM is the highlighted focus of the players, that other game modes are a possibility. "Halling was also asked if team deathmatch would be the only game-mode featured on these maps. Logistically, this would make most sense considering their size. ..... His answer, “we will release more details about the levels and game modes later,” suggests that the inclusion of other, or perhaps new game modes, is a possibility." Also, note the portion on the webpage that states "Play in new ways, mixing team play and instant action" Play in new ways? Meaning newer then the ways we are currently playing?? http://www.battlefield.com/...
What is interesting about the new DLC is that it mentions 2-16 players. http://www.battlefield.com/... We already understand the SQDM 4 vs 4 vs 4 vs 4 possibilities. And the 8 vs 8 TDM, maybe? But how does the 2 player come into play? Could it be 1 vs 1 option? We already know the maps will be smaller in size and have a bit more leveling to it then the other maps. Looking at the one screen grab that we do have it looks similar to a Rainbow 6 multiplayer map that we have seen in the past. http://mp1st.com/wp-content... I am really interested in what varieties of gameplay might be possible. Obviously the 4 vs 4 squad rush would be a nice option. But I would even like to see some 4 vs 4 vs 4 SQDM or some other variants with more of an odd squad makeup. People keep using CoD as the exam[;e of what these maps are leaning towards... but I see them leaning more towards some of the Rainbow 6 maps that were relatively smaller and very addictive.
No sir. Rainbow six had maps that were waaaaaay more verticle. So technically, they didnt feel so small. Also, you could repel down or up floors to make use of the verticle nature of those maps. Now, look at the new map DICE showed. Its completely flat. At least rainbow Sixes worked well because it's gameplay was suited more for a swat team type scenario. Battlefields turn sensitivies, use of ADS (Aiming down the Sights) and ability to use prone will ultimately slow down a match that is played on maps that tiny. The movements, controls, animations, and the grenade launcher, use of RPG's, grenades, claymores, etc will also slow things down in terms of physical progress across the already tiny map. So in essence, this looks like it will be a camp-fest. rainbow Six didnt have any of these things so it worked better in small maps, plus it was more verticle. BF3's new tiny maps are flat, even smaller per square inch (look at the image with the HUD map), and has gameplay/control response suited more for wide turning in wide open areas. This gameplay engine (not graphics engine) is incompatible with long-term corridor shooting. Even the current TDM maps have SOME parts that allow you to make wider turns since it's initially taking a portion of the larger map and using it for cqc.
The map is not flat, ive seen a cam footage gameplay video, it is a 2 story building that kinda reminds me of the library level from rainbow six vegas
Library in Vegas2 was LVU right? Had two 2 story libraries facing one another with a courtyard and elevated walkway connecting them? If so, the MISTADONZIE is wrong and needs to go sit down somewhere. There was no repelling on that map except if you went to the roof top and went through the skylight in which no one did. What you dont know and they do is that these maps were tested by focus groups and beta testers. I am sure they know what they doing.
I was an avid Rainbow 6 player. And many of the maps were very small with only a few levels to them. Here are but a few examples of some small maps from Rainbow Six 3: 8 Player Maps TrainYard Scharins Parkade CloseQuarter CARNIVAL 10 Player Maps MEAT FACTORY GARAGE None of these maps was huge as you mentioned. And of course I still remember games in the Airport maps 1 & 2. And the Map that was located on an Island Estate is most close to the new map that DICE has created. You might be young and only familiar with the Vegas multiplayer? But even there they had some levels that were fairly close quartered. If you do a little research you will find that the new levels are very vertical. And are going to prove to be some very interesting close quarters battles.
I prefer the smaller maps, and its not because i get more points like everyone above me is saying, (though it is true) I just prefer the more hectic matches
large-scale warfare, is set to release shortly after Close Quarters ----------------------------- ----------------------------- Well at least they not just focused on just small maps not forgetting the larger base that wants big area battlefeld maps. From sound of it dice just wants a complete Mix bag for everyone. Thoe i have played teamdeathmatch the maps need to be bigger.
Close combat is popular because a majority of people have no idea how to aim at long range in Battlefield so they have run run in close and spray/spray. Not to mention a majority of maps force you into tight corridor confrontations up close because of the chokepoint design.
ok ok your wayyyy better then us losers who play TDM. rofl. I also play rush and conquest. TDM on BF3 is too awesome. sorry
yes because TDM was mentioned in the above post..... lol the retards on this site.
"Call of Battlefield", you knew it was coming. I warned the Battlefield fans to stop promoting BF3 hype on CoD videos because if CoD fans come to Battlefield it only means Battlefield turning into CoD.
Moron! In what way is this CoD? I for one play TDM because I have that option of not playing Rush or Conquest all the time. I want quick action on a scaled down map with destruction and great graphics. I dont want to have to die and run all the way back to the action to get sniped off again by the same camping jackass. Lets see how long you snipe in TDM with bullets whizzing by. If you dont like it DONT BUY IT. SHAME ON DICE FOR TRYING TO APPEAL TO THE MASSES. GOD FORBID THEY TRY AND MAKE ANY MONEY BEING A COMPANY
IW and treyarch dont include some BF sized maps for people in CoD why should Dice include Cod sized maps for BF players? the only almost BF sized maps are caspian, kharg, and firestorm + B2K but those dont really count cuz theyre old. So why do the CoD kiddies get catered to 1st? Why not send out the armored maps 1st? Dice should stick to BF maps.
DICE could give us a poop simulator for the bathroom stalls in Operation Metro's restrooms as DLC and MP1st will STILL be making articles defending DICE. MP1st is always trying to put a positive spin on DICE's Bullsh*t in their articles ever since BF3 came out.
Yea, this DLC is really popular... *looks at Battlelog forum*...oh...yea about that. Im all for new maps and even maps like what close quarters will have. But mix em up...give us some close quarters maps with large maps. I cant wait to see how this DLC sells.
i want new maps but i only play rush so if this dlc is just tdm ill have to pass
