Console Companies Continuing to Keep Inspectors Out of Factories

Kotaku writes "We've written many times before about the working conditions at Foxconn and other Chinese plants at which nearly all of the electronics used for gaming are manufactured. The short version is, its not great. Factory workers manage extraordinary hours for very little pay, living in cramped conditions. Following a spate of suicides in 2010 and 2011, a threatened mass suicide action this January at a factory where Xbox 360 units are built drew international attention."

The story is too old to be commented.

I blame the Chinese Government for allowing this kind of cheap slave labor. All the companies involved in these horrible actions against another human being should be a shamed of themselves.

These people deserve a lot better.

@NYC_Gamer

You should also allocate some of that blame to the U.S. government for not extending U.S. labor laws overseas to U.S. based companies. But of course profit trumps all, so...

Yeah because giving dirt poor people a job is evil and they cant get a job anywhere else. If they didn't have slave labor in china these people would be starving even more. atleast they are making some money.

rezzah2386d ago (Edited 2386d ago )

It is true that at the very least they are making money, but the process of which they make it isn't near best it can be. Rather they are purposefully given this work style to save money that is already earn at a high rate.

Regardless of what is offered money is held to be superior over the life of another.

Edit:
An analogy of what you accept is like a teenage girl running from home (regardless of reason). She ends up living in the streets. A man approaches her and offers her a better life and she accepts. She is now hooked on drugs and working as a prostitute to pay back the money for the drugs she buys from the man who "hired" her. She gets beaten and has STD's.

But don't worry because as long as she is getting paid she should be thankful.

Moncole please read up on the issues before you make a comment like that, it just makes you look like a heartless assh*le. And I know that you're not because, well you're a gamer and we're not like that. These are good people, hardworking people, that make our hobby possible to please have some respect for them and educate yourself on the issue.

Moncole2386d ago (Edited 2386d ago )

I was just looking at the positive way. Sure it's bad but there is a positive way about it, if they are not in the factories they would probably be dead.

Snookies122386d ago

If they don't have something to hide, they wouldn't need to keep them out. It's as plain as that. :\

I wonder whats really going on ...

skrug2386d ago

Well, Apple has like 50% profit margins on their phones and tablets.

While consoles (MS/Sony) are sold at a loss (at least initially) and people are saying it's overpriced.... =/

F7U122386d ago

All these companies are to blame not just Apple so lets keep this on topic. Apple has gotten more than their share of the negative press over the lasts few weeks on this issue so now it's everybody else's turn.

skrug2385d ago

I know they're all to blame, however Apple has the highest profit margins and is still bargaining for lower component prices (with their 'power' and being able to order in larger volume, etc). And they have billions in the bank.

While on the console side, they are selling at cost/at a loss, yet people still complain that it's overpriced. And if they do raise the price then all hell would break loose...
