Fanboyism is Integral to Gaming Culture - We Can't All Just Get Along

Gamers Nexus: "The gaming industry is versatile-yet-volatile, expansive-yet-inclusive, and most of all, mobilizing for users across all platforms; openly stating one's allegiance -- even mere preference -- toward a particular platform or series almost assuredly results in an indignant assault on character and gaming credibility, depending on the environment and encompassing community. Gaming culture, as we've analyzed previously, remains a challenge to explain to "outsiders," but one thing's for sure: We have just as much infighting as any other impassioned way of life (virtual or not)."

Cheerleaders are already ruining the gaming forums. Some treat gaming like its some type of war and allow themselves to get emotionally tied to a brand/machine.

Never got the whole fanboy thing, I play a hell of a lot of games, god knows where I get the time but I've been a gamer since I was a boy. I can understand supporting a sports team but a console?!?? Does it not come across as a bit sad? Educate if I'm wrong please.

I can see supporting different e-sports competitors or something like that, if not only through nationalism, but I agree -- supporting greedy corporations only because you happen to own a device made by them is borderline dangerous.
