All the predictions seem right exept for built in hd-dvd.

Honeal2g3564d ago

this was pretty good prediction... cept for the hd-dvd that will never happen microsoft is persistent but not stupid... they are probably right about the lead dwindling but game sales will always succeed onthe 360

- MS will release a 360 with an in-built HD-DVD player for Christmas 2008.
Won't happen, because that's the main reason why the PS3 has had its short comings because of the blu-ray that made it $600 in the first place. If MS would do this they would probably make a limited amount.
- Gears of War 2 will come out in November 2008.
Likely, but the earlier they release the less enhancements it will have. I mean if this becomes a release every year then it's going to be minor upgrades like Rainbow Six and GRAW. And especially when they're also working on 360's UT3.
- Rare will start to show its worth.
No because whatever they spent on Rare was way too much. And when you ask a 360 fan what he is looking forward in 08, Banjo probably doesn't top the top 5 list.
- Microsoft will cut the price of the Xbox 360 to counter Sony's introduction of Home on PS3.
That's really hard to do because Home could come anytime. Home is not a system seller because when it launches it will be a work in progress. Home at release won't be better than XBL and they're hardly the samething.
- The Xbox 360 will continue to be the leading console in terms of game sales, but won't top the Wii.
That's wrong, the 360 will have the highest game attach rate. Right now it's 4 to 1 on 360 and basically a 1.5 to 1 for Wii and PS3. And 360 will continue with having the highest attach rate. PS3 will catch up to this and Wii will stay the same in 08.

it wont happen but the cost of HD DVD has gone down. and MS even dropped the price of the HD DVD player to 129.

- Likely, but the earlier they release the less enhancements it will have. I mean if this becomes a release every year then it's going to be minor upgrades like Rainbow Six and GRAW. And especially when they're also working on 360's UT3.

Gears came out a year ago if the next games comes out in the fall of 08 that will make 2 years not 1. and they could be working on both all you would need to do is higher more people for that game.

- That's wrong, the 360 will have the highest game attach rate. Right now it's 4 to 1 on 360 and basically a 1.5 to 1 for Wii and PS3. And 360 will continue with having the highest attach rate. PS3 will catch up to this and Wii will stay the same in 08.

the 360's attach rate is at 6.9 and the wiis is at 3.8 i believe. in year one the 360's attach rate was over 4.

yo lemonade rare is a huge company Rumor is they are working on Killer instinct 3 and on a new ip fps.

gaffyh3563d ago

I kinda agree with mikeslemonade on the Rare issue, I just don't see 360's market buying games like Banjo. Although I would love another Banjo, those games were great apart from the talking gibberish

"MS will release a 360 with an in-built HD-DVD player for Christmas 2008."

Not going to happen. There are no HD-DVD drives that read DVDs at 12x. Can't be use for game storage. Microsoft isn't going through the huge extra cost of designing a 12x HD-DVD drive that is only going to be used for a format they don't care about.

"Rare will start to show its worth."

Wishful thinking at best. Rare is a shell of what it once was. The Rare of 2007 has little to do with the Rare of the N64 days other than the same name.

"Microsoft will cut the price of the Xbox 360 to counter Sony's introduction of Home on PS3."

This makes no sense. Price cuts move console purchases forward in time not across platforms. The 125+ million PS2 owners out there aren't going to care about saving 50 or 100 bucks on a 360.

"The Xbox 360 will continue to be the leading console in terms of game sales, but won't top the Wii."

Not in Japan. Not in Europe. And even going by the constantly inflated 360 sales numbers and underreported PS3 numbers on fanboy sites like vgachartz the PS3 has a higher attach rate than the 360 at relative to similar amounts of time on the market.

green3564d ago

THE 360S ATTACH RATE AT THIS TIME LAST YEAR WAS CLOSE TO 5 GAMES PER CONSOLE.AND EVEN 2 MONTHS AFTER LUNCH WAS AT 4.5(CALL OF DUTY 2 SOLD SO WELL ON THE 360 IN 2 MONTHS THAT IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST SELLING GAMES OF THE YEAR.

NEXT YEAR PS3 WILL START TO EDGE CLOSER IN TERMS OF HARDWARE BUT 360 WILL BE AHEAD IN SOFTWARE AND ATTACH RATE.

PRICE CUT WILL ALWAYS HELP A CONSOLE LOOK AT THE PS3 FOR EXAMPLE.

fresco3564d ago

there were more than a half dozen titles that sold million copies in the 360's first year, wii doubled xbox first yr sales and still dont have that many.

360's attach rate is crazy.

Honeal2g3564d ago

anything that shows ps3 doing bad is "fanboy" thats the attitude of all children and people in denial ... do u honestly believe that everyone is liying about the attatch rate on the 360 and ps3? seriously i have soo many friends and family that fit the description i;d say 3 out of the 15 ppl i kno who ps3's actually use it to play games. its Win Win for sony but loss for the gamer to a certain extent. i believe sony has games its obvious that they do but why do the really really good games get average sales ? probably cause the consumer they once had are now on the wii ..u should check out gametrailers bonus round even tho u probably think they are biased to since most of there graphics comparisons are in favour of 360 lmao ...soon u;ll have no sites to go to lol if u keep that up

ry-guy3564d ago

I am sorry but the PS3's attach rate will never come close to that of Xbox 360's because people were originally buying the PS3 because it was the CHEAPEST BluRay player on the market. That been a proven fact. Hence why their game sales are always so underpar compared to their hardware sales.

And, as it has been proven VG Chartz is just faulty in general. Take Mass Effect. At the time Microsoft had come out and confirmed that Mass Effect had sold 1 million copies meanwhile VGC had ME with only 0.58 million copies sold. Yeah look at how much they inflated those 360 numbers.

HD-DVD - no way. They've already released far too many 360 SKUS, so they'd get hardly any additional market penetration with yet another SKU, three years after the original 360 was introduced.

Gears of War is likely true.

Rare - I hope so! Hopefully Banjo will come out next year and it will be great. I'm really looking forward to it. But with the stellar galaxy just released on Wii, it will be interesting to see if a traditional collect-a-thon platformer like Banjo will impress.

Microsoft cutting the price to counter HOME doesn't make sense. Plus, with the arcade model in line with the Wii in terms of price...there's not much lower they can go.

fresco3564d ago (Edited 3564d ago )

will coincide with a major title release.. think gta4, madden, gow2, etc.

MK_Red3564d ago

I hope the Rare one happens and they show Killer Instinct 3.

Jinxstar3564d ago (Edited 3564d ago )

YES... But hopefully better balanced then the SNES version... I loved that game but it needed work in that area...

MK_Red3564d ago

Definitly agreed. Having a balanced rooster of fighters is more than essential to playablity and competitiveness of the game, specially in terms of multiplayer / Vs.

BloodySinner3564d ago

I'm assuming you never played the arcade versions of Killer Instinct (which also happen to be the REAL deal).

bozobucketeer3564d ago

Yeah and I'm gonna get laid in 08'. Right...

Jinxstar3564d ago

Anything could happen ;-)
