TheGameFanatics Retro Review – SSX On Tour

SSX On Tour is more about your custom-created character drawing his way into snowboarding lore, or skiing lore, as skiing was introduced in On Tour. From there you’ll participate in various events across the mountain to help gain “Hype” as you move your way up the SSX leaderboards. While it sounds pretty generic, the game is completely fueled by the original style employed by EA. The dominant art style is similar to sketches you’d see in a notebook, almost as if you’re doodling in between runs down the mountain, and helps to create this over the top style that only adds to the already over the top gameplay, fueled by the new “Monster Tricks.” All of this helps to add to the notion that you’re actually becoming a celebrity as you progress through the game’s campaign.

SSX on tour is my fav SSX game, it is amazing. What sets itt apart from the other SSX games besides all it's awesome never-ending challenges is the soundtrack, it is fantastic.

You ever played SSX Tricky? For me, that was the pinnacle of the SSX franchise.

@Urrakia34
Well said. SSX Tricky is what truly got me into the franchise as well.

While everyone is entitled their opinions, I give you credit for actually "enjoying" this bastardization to the franchise. SSX On Tour was a travesty of an installment that had an abysmal soundtrack (in my opinion), muddy visuals that were tremendously downgraded from SSX 3 and a terrible art style that really put the game in an identity crisis.

Being a massive SSX fan (SSX 3 being my favorite game of all time), I invested hundreds of hours with both SSX Tricky and SSX 3. In my opinion however, SSX On Tour was an incredibly painful game to play and a huge misstep in the franchise.
