Parents are fooling themselves if they hope Nintendo's Wii active games console, which uses a wireless handheld controller to replicate athletic movement, will stop their youngster becoming obese, a study says.
"One of the four games was Project Gotham Racing 3, played on the sedentary XBOX 350, made by Microsoft." " Parents are fooling themselves if they hope Nintendo's Wii active games console, which uses a wireless handheld controller to replicate athletic movement, will stop their youngster becoming obese..." Nooooooooooooooooooo!
So it will at least help in burning some fat...
"Energy expenditure using Wii was "significantly greater" -- 51 percent more -- than on the XBOX, the scientists found." LOL @ Xbox 350...looks like it's a very professional article *sarcasm* Why are they comparing a system where you sit there and move your thumbs, with another system that makes you, at least, use your wrist? You could burn fat with the Wii...try playing Wii boxing for awhile and I'll bet some blubber will be burnt off. s I do agree that it still won't help kids that are obese already, but it'll do a little good. Mostly kids are obese not just from non-activity, but from parents feeding them twinkies for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and a midnight snack.
really i mean looooooooooooooool this article rocks and it proves that the wii even fails to accomplish what it was advertized to do that proves one point every console is flawed one way one or another they are made by men, very flawed beings... and the wii didn't come by immaculate conception(sarcasm) so move on wiibots, and stop the nonesense telling everybody the wii is a great machine on every aspect(it doesn't have hi-def nor what is cited aboved,, it relies on waving a 'mote that has been a dissapointment because it doesn't actually copy real time movements the pseye is way too better, have anyone tried those eye-puzzle games? i did at a friend's,,, they are simply amazing)
If I want to bowl, or play tennis, I can do it in real life. I don't understand the concept of Wii Sports. I don't play videogames to move my body around since it's so much better to do it for real. I'm confused.----12
actually Wii-sports wasn't planned being sold with every Wii, it was just a Demo for ....e3 was it? and after that they decided to put it with a Wii. >_< but you don't play Wii to lose weight, you just play it for funnnnn and some games like Wii boxing make you tired....so i can conclude from that you must be burning something
Wear a damn jacket and go jogging!!
If you burn the equivalent of a quarter chocolate bar per hour playing Wii you WILL lose weight unless you're woofing down half of a chocolate bar per hour.
well obviously they didn't test out WiiFit...
There are whole websites dedicated to health plans and statistics utilizing WiiSports and soon WiiFit, that completely disprove this "article." While I am a supporter of the regular types of excercise, the Wii does a great job of getting people that normally wouldn't exercise to do so while playing the game. Heck, I love using it to get some extra excercise in the evening, or on days when I can't make the gym. So it has its purpose.
taking a 30 minute walk in the park will be good for ya, so i take playing some Wii games too.....although you can play games just by making smaller wrists movements [LAZY MODE]or you can play like those people who think you neeed to move your arm like helll[HYPER MODE] to make it work
Parents, stop giving your kids money. They will only buy junk food / fast food / soda. There are fast food restaurants in every corner. Once they have no money, they will lose weight if you feed them a healthy diet. Wii ain't going to help, its what you feed them that matters. Do you see fat Nigerians? No, because they don't have food. Nigerians aren't thin because they all own a Wii. Get a clue.
Coming from experience, I know that the Wii can be exhausting at times. Boxing and Tennis especially. Plus with the recent addition to WiiFit, how can the Wii NOT help in getting your kids more active? The thing is obesity is hereditary and this is a proven fact. Adopted kids with obese biological parents will be obese even if the kids adopted parents are fit and eat right.
Yes, obesity is at least partly hereditary. But it still doesn't change the fact that if you eat less and exercise more you won't become obese. Kids with obesity genes just have to eat less and exercise more than kids without them. In poor countries there are no obese kids even if parents have obesity genes.
NO way it won't?!?! Thankfully there is somebody telling these idiots who think it will the truth
First off the people buying a Wii with dreams of losing weight are the same types looking for that magic pill that will slim them down while they gorge on Big Macs. Sure playing something like Wii Boxing will burn calories, but unless you're eating a healthy diet, and excerising regularly don't expect to lose that gut.
wii is a videogame machine..its fun and innovative .. doesnt mean it was intended as a gym..
