Yoshida Talks Vita Expenses: “It’s a Burden Having 3G”, Likens to PS2 Broadband Functionality

Ever since Sony announced that there would be two different versions of the PS Vita at last year’s E3, the question that has been plaguing gamers’ minds is whether or not the 3G-enabled model is worth the extra $50.

During an interview with Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida at DICE, GameIndustry.biz asked that very question to which Yoshida responded by confessing that the company initially had its own share of uncertainties with the 3G model. - PSLS

I went for a Wi-Fi as there isn't really enough to make the 3G worth it if you have a 3G smartphone

Sev2102d ago

I only went with 3G because I wanted the option open in the future. And that always on GPS stuff.

FriedGoat2102d ago

Yeah same, I also don't mind getting wipeout instantly for £5 with the vodaphone topup.

jony_dols2102d ago

I'm guessing down the line there might be a 4G model, that could potentially allow mobile online gaming. That would definitely be worth the extra few quid.

I bought two 3g models and Im very happy with my decision. To each his own but id rather have the option and I like the constant connectivity

360GamerFG2102d ago

Ok but why 2 though?? I mean come on. . .why?

SilentNegotiator2102d ago

My phone turns into a 4G hotspot. Wifi for me.

jony_dols2102d ago

Just wondering, will your 4G hotspot allow online gaming on your PS Vita?

I've been looking around online, and haven't found any verification on it.

SilentNegotiator2102d ago (Edited 2102d ago )

Yeah, but depending on how good the service is in the area you're in, the connection could be anywhere from decent to abominable (for a live, online match).

TruthBTold2102d ago (Edited 2102d ago )

Me too, i figure if i ever want to game on the go i can request the hotspot for my cell for a little extra a month and use my wifi and tablet but i dont think i will need it. Use wifi at work and at home. Considering you will only get updates wifi but no gaming online of course. One more day.

Strait from the man himself. Adapt and MOVE on. The Vita will be fine in the long run without the not so needed 3G model.

Dante1122102d ago

I just went ahead and went with the 3G model for LiveArea (DLC, Tournaments, etc) and the multiplayer since I'm usually out most of the day.

I got the 3G model if only to have the option, but I can't say it'll get much use, aside from the free datapass.

Waddy1012102d ago

Well that title wasn't sensationalist at all...
