GameSpot: Devil May Cry 4 updated hands-on with the PS3 version

In the past year, GameSpot have had plenty of hands-on time with Capcom's Devil May Cry 4, but most of that has been in non-linear chunks that haven't really allowed them to get to grips with the storyline and how newbie Nero gets to replace veteran Dante as the series hero. But GameSpot recently got an early Christmas present in the form of full review code for the PlayStation 3 version of Devil May Cry 4, and they can now report just exactly what goes down in first five levels of the game.

Devil May Cry looks set to deliver more of the same over-the-top action fans of the series expect. GameSpot's early play throughs have all been fairly positive, although they did find one annoying feature with the PS3 version. The game needs to install a large chunk of files on the PS3's drive, and it takes quite a lot of time (roughly 20-30 minutes). This obviously only happens the first time you play the game, but it's still quite a jarring experience to be faced with a PC-like install process on a console game.

20-30mins installin wat kinda BS is that?

bigshynepo3804d ago

If it works like it's supposed to, the PS3 version shouldn't have much, if any, loading screens. Many other PS3 games give you the option of installing game data to speed along the game. I would rather wait 15 min for a game to install for no loading screens than to deal with them all game long. The XBox will probably be plagued with longer load times if the PS3 version needs this kind of install.

I hate the fact that we need to keep doing this as it eats up alot of storage space. I need to upgrade my HDD

these guys need to learn a thing or 2 about streaming i mean uncharted streaming. this loading to my HDD is getting expensive on my space. folklore, HS, warhawk, resistance Motorstorm, darkness, oblivion, and even ratchet to a degree. required me to load this on my HDD... and ninja gaiden as well. they need to stream this thing the way uncharted does. never a load time or anything in it besides the inital start up.

still this just means that the 360 will be crippled, i feel so bad for the owners who have to site through cut scenes then load, fight then load then walk through a door and load so forth... it's gonna suck. but oh well. i'll look at my hardrive and just have to get a new one probably a 320 gig and be set with that for next year

I wonder how the 360 will fair with their control scheme? This franchise was shaped for the playstation controllers. It should be interesting.

It's probably to ensure absolutely no load times, which I'm more than fine with. However other, more impressive looking games on the PS3 without having to download anything have provided experiences with no load times. Even the PS2's god of war had no load times. I don't have a problem with it though, it's not THAT big of a deal.

I don't know how PS3's debug kits work, but it is possible we won't see this in the retail package.

10gb? ;o

How were the other games?

I heard from other sites that it took 40-45 minutes to install. i guess they each got different builds of the game.
