I agree with the top 2, Final Fantasy (franchise) and the Legend of Zelda series have fantastic music

It was a close call between those two in the ranking, for sure. Thanks for checking it out!

in general, Square made some of the industry's best scores of all time. when i say industry i don't mean games music, but the music as an art.

greta picks there Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger, but no modern soundtracks?

Okami, Mass Effect series, assassins creed 2?

I find that modern soundtracks are very much in the background as opposed to older game music. I am not saying that there aren't good modern soundtracks (Mass Effect/Skyrim/etc.), but they are all lacking the strong, memorable melodies of the games of old.

I am very surprised to see no mention of Vanquish, Shadow Of The Damned, Sonic the Hedgehog, Megaman, Silent Hill, Streets Of Rage, Killer 7 or Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne to name a few....

I'm not saying that it's a bad list but if you haven't given any of the above a listen, put it on your to do list. :)

Megaman lost in the round robin, as did Sonic. Silent Hill wasn't considered, because the ambiance to me seems more remarkable than the soundtrack. Streets of Rage is very good. There were a lot of great soundtracks that didn't make the cut. I love the soundtrack for Super Ghouls n' Ghosts, but Duck Tales demolished it in the round robin. hehe. Maybe I will do a top 20 next time, and maybe have the round robin be an interactive experience for users through votes. =D
