L.A. Noire PC gets a DX11 Patch

DSOGaming writes: "Now here is a nice surprise. A few hours ago, Rockstar released a new patch for the PC version of L.A. Noire. This new patch adds DX11 support to this unique third person adventure game and it improves performance on many Windows Vista and Windows 7 setups using DX11 graphics cards."

cool more developers need to add DX11 support for better performance even if they aren't going to add any DX11 effects.

Unfortunately, while DX11 support is nice, this patch also inexplicably removes some previously-supported screen resolutions, including the (perfectly valid, and native on many screens) 1360 x 768, which is a standard 16:9 format.

I now have to run the game at 1280 x 720, upscaled to my monitor.

iamgoatman2256d ago

That's a bit silly. Is there no config file where you can manually input your resolution?

I have a 50% off Steam coupon for Rockstar games from XMas. I'm hoping they have a sale on this before it expires.

Ducky2256d ago

Don't those coupons expire soon?

The game itself was 50% off during the winter sale.

That's nice but it would be better if it was properly supported at release. Look at Crysis 2, Batman Arkham City, etc.. Horrible or no dx11 support at release which hurts PC sales and infuriates the PC gamer who were supporting their product on release. Sometimes it's too little too late, but this IS a nice surprise. Everyone loves nice graphics.

Rawr, I'm so angry.

Does the DX11 improve visual quality or simply add performance? Either well, it's a welcome addition. Really unexpected considering their poor support of the pc platform. Trying to win the fanbase back perhaps?

john22256d ago

Only offers better performance

dirthurts2256d ago

Thanks for the info.
Still interesting they added it. Perhaps experimentation for a future release?

stevenhiggster2256d ago (Edited 2256d ago )

Thats completely wrong I'm afraid. In most cases it'll make your performance worse! Because it adds so much eye candy.
It vastly improves visual qaulity.

Example, watch from about 1:30 and you'll see some astounding differences over dx9.

I was reffering to L.A. Noire DX11. Not DX11 in general ;)

stevenhiggster2255d ago

Fair enough I rescind my comment. I thought you were talking about dx11 in general.
