What do you do when you want to advertise a device jam-packed with more features than a Transformer crossed with a Swiss army knife? Mention none of the features, of course. - PSLS
What are they expecting? Most ads on TV do not sit there and throw specs at your face since it does nothing to pull in the average person. I thought the ad was good and not as bad as the article tries to make it out to be.
I'd normally be inclined to agree, but it would have been nice to at least...go somewhat more in the direction of making the Vita seem appealing.
i liked it... nice. i'm sure they'll be running other commercials parallelly which showcases particular games and their features... as in it gets released.
I think the point here is that they do nothing to show that it's not just another PSP iteration. This is what hurt the 3DS at first... and it hurt it a lot.
I'd the Price, not the it's just another iteration is what hurt the 3DS to start with. All TV adverts generally do is make people aware of a product. Which they then research it themselves. I still feel Sony have done a great job in the Vita marketing side by putting a demo unit in hundreds of gaming stores. Walk into your local gamestation/game here and there's always people playing it. From there you get interest and the most important thing when it comes to selling a product to the masses...word of mouth (see how the first Uncharted game did sales wise thanks to word of mouth and look how popular the series is now)
i totally agree with this article. I love and appreciate art but it doesn't sell consoles
Yup, every casual gamer I talk to does not know anything about it. They think it looks exactly like the PSP. That ad does not help those gamers at all, and it looks like Sony blew a lot of money on that ad too
Damned if you do damned if you don't.
Damned if you don't do it well
Indeed, but don't say that too loud, some may get offended! XD In all seriousness, the Vita, like every other device that receives pre-release doom article after another, will be fine.
an "the world is in play" slogan is more inline to make good tv ads any way..KB will not sleep on it..remember he's VP of everything in the world! muhahaha..VP.KB is in play. here @ playstation...o'l you get the idea..lol
Sony might as well come out with an add that they don't know how to advertise this device and say its like two transformers having sex while playing shitty Dubstep in the background.... Enjoy.
I hate the "art-house" style ad's... The first PS3 ad's sucked, Its the same all over again... Where the F is KB ??????????. fact + comedy + KB = EPIC
why would Kevin Butler be in a European advert?
Maybe your right , language Translation may not work... I still think The humour is the adds is universally funny. Anyway, living in what Sony call " european region" , I'd love to have KB ads here in Oz.
This Ad doesn't even show the Vita until the very last second. Didn't even mention the name PS Vita in the ad itself.
that's because the identical ad under it advertises the PSP instead at the end too
sony just doesn't get it, and after so many years, it seems like they never will. IF YOU WANT TO SELL SOMETHING, CENTER THE AD AROUND THE GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE. that is what will convince people, not "dreams of what can be". sure taking MLB the show off the ps3 and with you is cool, but the margin of people interested in that is SO SMALL. just show console quality FIFA or UNCHARTED on a handheld (playable online over 3g even), and then compare it to the crap garbage versions available on iOS and you make the decision for them. and then on TOP of that put the price and some quick features. how can they be so dumb. what they've chosen to do (with $50 million) is the same idea that killed the hopes of killzone 2, resistance 3, and pretty much every other ad campaign they've run recently. the full-length long live play ad (not the shortened version) was great, but that was only preaching to the converted, and they should have wider aspirations than that. SONY NOBODY CARES about dudes walking around or talking about the vita, they care about what they can GET, if they like the gameplay...which is what they will tangibly GET should they purchase it, then they will GET IT.
Considering how much kinect sold by showing people jumping around like dildos and no gameplay what so ever I think your statement is invaild. We are gamers dude and will buy the device anyway because we know the games and features the system has to offer, they don't really need to sell it to us. It's those who don't follow the games industry the advertisement is focused towards. If they have these advertisements coming on regularly (basically shoving it down the consumers throats) they will hit the audience they want. That is how Microsoft does it and that is how Nintendo do it.
Yeesh, Sony's ads always creep me out.
The trick here is to understand who the ads are mainly aimed at, core gamers. At least at this point that's where their marketing is aiming at.
"AND CONQUERED WORLDS" This has a very old school Sony feel to it. I like. Not all adverts are about ramming the product down your throat till your gagging and tears are rolling down your cheeks. Some are just made to make you think what was that for. Which makes you think about it more and then at some point you figure it out. And like magic it's stuck in your head longer than some flashy, loud ad that was surrounded by more flashy loud ad's.
