Retro Studios Recruiting Hand-Painted Texture Artists

We don't know much about the next big project out of Retro Studios except that it's something that "everyone wants [them] to do," that it's supposedly going to involve some well-known third-party people, and that it's coming to Wii U

Hand-painted texture artists or hand-painting texture artists? First option sounds kinda kinky.

blackbirdi4455d ago

who cares even skyrim and uncharted use hand painted textures

Gr814455d ago

I'm only asking because I am not knowledgeable on these matters. However, I think many people take this as Retro working on a game with 'cel shading' ala Wind Waker...or even Skyward Sword.

And while people seem to put Wind Waker on a pedestal they conveniently forget the backlash such an artsyle had with fans. So there's an anxiety happening with fans of say Zelda, that want the game to resemble the tech demo shown and not go the 'creative artsyle' crap again.

Compound this with Rumors that Retro might be involved in the next Zelda game and viola. But if both games you mentioned also have hand painted textures and look gorgeous, then the worries are unfounded.

blackbirdi4455d ago

don't worry about hand painted textures i'm 3d artist and i know what i m talking about you can check my gallery http://blackbirdi.deviantar... and i use the same technique for texturing ;) so guys i think nintendo made the right choice hiring retro studio for the upcomming ... i know somebody who told me that the all the design document are from nintendo retro studio will just handeling the programming and GfX

cheers

give me a damn METROOOOOOID!!!!!!!!!

Whatever they're doing, its gonna be rad.

Skyward Sword and Kirbys Epic Yarn pretty much confirm for me that Nintendo uses art style better than almost anyone else.

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga4d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas3d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj3d ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.

Oh hell yeah! I feel like this was one hell of an underrated game, and I'm glad to see that a part 2 is coming.

jznrpg4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

This was my favorite Telltale game. I’m definitely going to play this. Hopefully it has less jank than the Telltale games had. I didn’t think it would happen but I’m happy it’s coming

gold_drake4d ago

right? it was sooo good, cant wait for part 2

BlackCountryBob4d ago

Great, loved the first game and happy a sequel is coming but after such a lengthy development, are Telltale gonna be releasing it episodic with non specific time delays between episodes? If it is episodic, they need to have a full set of dates laid out for every episode so we know what we are getting & when like Resident Evil Revelations 2 did, buying episode 1 and not knowing when the rest will come is just unacceptable in 2024.

CobraKai3d ago

I always loved Telltale games. They were like those old choose your own adventures books.
