Review: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning; the most disappointing game ever | Digitally Downloaded

Digitally Downloaded writes: "Without a doubt, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is the most disappointing game I’ve ever played. As you’ll see from the score below, it’s not a bad game by any means. It’s just that it is the dictionary definition of disappointing." (Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning, PC, PS3, Xbox 360) 4/5

lol I believe there are plenty of other games that classify as "disappointing". If anything, Kingdoms of Amalur is a bit of an underdog.
KYU2130  +   466d ago
I would agree with you on being an underdog. The game really did suffer from over hype though. But it is a fun game after spending 300+hrs in skyrim and(bugs and all).

Hype!? 3 months ago no knew what KoA was. I was having conversations with myself on here about how good it would be. No one gave a damn about it. Then all of a sudden it gets some much deserved attention and it's overhyped.

I personally think it's an absolute gem. Yeah, the camera's a bit ditsy and the audio's inconsistent but still it's fantastic. Nice that it isn't just a button masher as well. You actually have to block and dodge. I'm all about the Chakrams.

My main tip. Lock the mini-map.

ill have say he didn't play this game properly. I was able to swim in several bodies of water, plus they have loot in the water. Next sneak (finnese) skills in this game are not like Skyrim at all. Sneak really does require activation in the tree. Ive done a lot of close quarters stealth kills. and I'm still in the first 20hrs of the game.

I didn't read the artical because it says the most dissapointing game ever but gives it a 4/5???? just wants hits sounds like to me. Ok I went ahead and read the artical all I can say is it was the dictionarys term for the most dissapointing artical of all time.

I'm about 17 hours in and am not at all disappointed ,the combat in particular is good fun . I really enjoy the fact that i don't get "penalised" for making hybrid classes .

I'm about 15 or more hours in and I enjoy the game immensely.I plan to buy the strategy guide today for it so I can make the best potions and find all the items in the game. The combat is beast and the story is alright for a game that was basically MMO turned RPG. I pre-ordered the game from Gamestop and I have the fate touched weapons, Mass Effect N7 armor, 7 bonus House of Valor Quests, and the costumes for Might, Finesse, and Sorcery. This is the definition of sleeper hit not disappointment. I didn't read the article but I did not have to. IGN gave this game a 9/10. Game Informer a 8/10. I seen perfect scores as well. Most legit game review sites gave this game positive if not very well received scores.

Whats the game like? I've never played a Kingdoms game before. I love rpgs but i currently have no money for this.
lashes2ashes  +   466d ago
The reason you never played a kingdoms game before is because this is the first one haha. It's really good. I would say this game is what fable could have been. Very very deep gameplay
Bimkoblerutso  +   466d ago
It's basically Fable mixed with MMORPG. It's got great combat and one of the best character building systems around, but as with most MMO's, if you take every quest that pops up it's going to feel a little tedious and mundane. As in, "go here and kill X" or "go here and collect Y." It's a bit strange for a singleplayer game to function the way KoA does.

Still, the story is actually pretty interesting and surprisingly intricate if you take the time to soak it all up. It just suffers from the open-world/MMO curse in that regard too. Unless you focus only on the main quest, the story is going to feel pretty disjointed and unfocused.

God of War + Dragon Age + Fable + WoW + Skyrim = Kingdoms of Amalur.

4/5 for the most disappointing game ever. Somethings wrong there. Wouldn't it have a 3 or a 2 then instead?
MattS  +   466d ago
Disappointing =\= bad. The words have entirely different meanings.

Amalur is a well-polished game.....it has everything you need in an rpg....but somehow they failed to bind them together......but great effort for a new studio......
My main concern about the game is that it is overheating my gpu(35 degree Celcius rise in 15 minutes play) as the menus and cutscenes are doing 700 (sometimes crossing 1000)fps......plus there is little option to tweak settings.......but a small update can fix those......

Vsync my dood
mobijoker  +   465d ago
I know that bro.....but i am seeking for config.ini tweak like other games to cap the fps....amalur provided one personal.ini which has got very little options to tweak....plus isn't it the duty of devs to inform people that
with vsync off, they may have a severe overheating issue......that's what make Blizzard different from other devs....starcraft 2 got the same problem....but on day 1 they provided a simple ini tweak to prevent the issue.....
My point was most people will not notice the fps overflow and they may end up burning their gpus with 4-5 hours play.....

Odd score for the most disappointing game ever. I was disappointed in the demo though. Not sure about "ever" but the biggest disappointment for me this gen was Dead Island.
ThichQuangDuck  +   466d ago
If 4/5 is the most disappointing game ever you need to lower your hype and stop making dramatic titles for views. Try playing skyrim for more than 150 hours and see how much of a chore that becomes
Gamer-Z  +   466d ago
If its a better Fable then i'm in, the last Fable game i played was an absolute joke.

I love the combat, loot and combat. Also the combat is awesome

I've really been having a great time with this game. I respect the writer's right to his own opinion, but game journalists shouldn't assume that their opinion=the world's.

My first RPG and Im really into it. Anyone else getting an undertone of Borderlands in there? Particularly the FUN element.
