Eric Hirshberg, head of Activision Publishing, talks about how the company convinced at least one blogger to accept the paid version of Call of Duty Elite.
Basically they want to do Elite again, because they were "creative" and thinking it up in the first place. It's all a PR stunt in my opinion. The fact that ELITE effectively takes people's money in return for a mystery jar of content is a sketchy one. I'm sure some people are happy to buy this, but during these times you need to know what you're getting for your money. Also Elite isn't fully-functioning just yet. I need clan operations! If they could charge less and make it seem like a fantastic investment opportunity, then I'm sure it would be more widely accepted.
Sadly, it was a huge success. When the game was launched everybody seemed to be elite.
Only idiots bought elite. I knew that the content for MW3 wasn't gonna be there. IW never comes through with their promises. Never buying a COD ever again, its been freakin boring since after COD4. The maps and gameplay, even the gun tweaks have all took a turn for the worst.
Most people bought it to get a nice discount on MW3 DLC. What's so "sad" about this? It's called being smart.

7 million signed up for Elite. 1.5M paid for subscriptions. I wonder what percentage of the total that was? 20 million total?
