Remember G4? Too Bad It Died

Remembering the Television station for what it was......not what it has become.

You know its bad when your 50+ father,uncle and or cousin who care nothing for gaming, is watching this channel.

You would think DirecTv pulling this channel from their lineup would be a wake up call, but nope G4 still going in that same horrible direction.

I can't really see the channel going on forever unless things change. DTV dropped it because it had some the worst ratings of all the channels.

we had ZDTV which became TechTV. Screen savers was one of my favorite shows. That and Extended Play which became X-Play.

They never had the G4 network but when G4 and TechTV merged the techTV became G4. Sad really as shows I like such as AudioFile, big Thinkers, Fresh Gear and of course the screen savers were canned.

I just cant stand attack of the show and xplay is not as informative as it once was. Its more about attitude now as well as childish behavior.

Some may not remember the ZDTV shows like I do. Cant say that G4 made as much impact on my tech knowledge like TechTV did.

I liked this channel a while ago. But then they started changing what they showed. Showing tons of Cops, cheaters, Campus PD and stuff of that sort. They went the wrong route. When it got taken off of Directv, I wasn't that upset. It just wasn't that good anymore.

Reality shows seem to be the route that all subject specific channels go. MTV, VH-1, Food Network, History Channel, etc.

I think the president for G4TV was one of the people that brought Cops to FOX.

Exactly...the channel died the moment it was first renamed G4TV and they cancelled its flagship show The Screen Savers (among other programming). The only good show they never cancelled was X-Play, which is apparently the show the new owner bought the entire channel for.

I used to occasionally watch Attack of the Show and I enjoyed their E3 coverage, but that's really all I'd tune in for....oh and I'd get sucked into a couple of Ninja Warrior episodes.

G4 is still a great channel. I like watching Cops Re-Runs and new X-Play/AOTS 4 times a week is cool. I would like them to add maybe another show or two geared towards gaming besides x-play. I also wouldn't mind watching a show hosted by Sarah Underwood because well...she is HOT AS FUCK! Maybe they can finally give Bustice her own live action series, LOL.

On a sidenote I think they dropped the ball a bit when they chose Candace Bailey to replace Olivia Munn. I thought Jersey Girl Alison Haislip would have been the logical fit. I think she left g4 because of that. I also miss Abbie Heppe who is now working with Respawn Studios aka the defunct Infinity Ward. She was pure babe, with her brown teeth and all. LOL. L8r H8r's.

I miss portal.... And g4tv.com the TV show. Lisa and Tina work for Microsoft now, I see them on the 360's dashboard all the time

It's funny you said that. a lot of g4 staff have connections with MS, and were repeatedly being called out as being bias, but they denied it. Thyw make their biasm so obvious at times though.

G4 is just SpikeTV 2. Even Attack of the Show seems to be tailored to appeal to the "male stereotype" demographic.

...but then you get shows like Cheaters that appeal to no one, and you have to wonder if maybe the station is being run by a retarded monkey...

G4 in it's glory days was so fucking fantastic man. Back then, it was soley for the gamers. Cheat, Cinematech, Arena, Icons, Judgment Day, etc were fucking great. Cinematech introduced me to a lot of games I didn't even know existed. X-Play was actually good during these days as well. Way better than they're now.

The channel had a huge impact on me growing up during the PS2 gen. Those were some great times.

Yeah it has really gone down since the earlier days. You can almost smell the desperation to keep on the air. Even 'Movies that don't suck' is showing some really sucky movies. I mean Ultraviolet is a movie that doesn't suck? Talk about grasping at straws.

I watch it daily after work. It has nice line- up around that time. X-play, Reviews on the run, and AOTS. After that I get the office and college cops reruns which isn't all that bad.
