Is it worth 40 bucks to play all the old Jak games in HD 3D?
Seems a rather entitled review. I'm reading it and all I could see was the equivalent of "They look good, but not good enough" & "It's a great collection, but they didn't add anything". I suppose I simply grew up in a household where expectations were something steeped in realism, not fantasy. I'm not sure what the editor believes should have been in here. Actually, I take that back, they want new animations in Precursor, they want art galleries, soundtracks and mini-games. I get it...Sly's collection offered some new stuff, but I really don't think it needs to serve as the benchmark for series going forward. Look at the ICO Collection. It received an incredible re-texturing and stereoscopic 3D, but that's about it...and it was just fine, as is this collection.
"Look at the ICO Collection..." There's something about this argument that makes reviewing collections so...dicey and unnecessary imo. The difference I would find in the ICO Collection compared to these other ones is sales in general. When looking at the 15 weeks of work it only took for the GoW Collection, it seems likes a cheap way to reskin something that was already bought by quite a few PS2 owners already. ICO/SotC didn't exactly capture that same amount of sales so it's conveyed as if it a critically acclaimed indie movie was getting an HD upgrade. It just seems fair to deliver the seperate PS2 reviews of the game, attach them to the collection description, and discuss the changes without scores (provided they don't do anything new).
My point wasn't in the subject of the collection, but in the fact that it was appreciated for what it originally represented, and not what they added to it. I, too, believe they should be reviewing these games based on the merit of when they originally released. Our tastes may have changed over the years, but I really don't think scoring a game that is over a decade old, with the same contemporary and discriminating eye, is all that fair to the content. There's a reason they were re-released in remastered form, because they're beloved fan-favorites. I don't think the intent is to sell a new generation, even though that may be one of the outlying results here.
"There's a reason they were re-released in remastered form, because they're beloved fan-favorites. I don't think the intent is to sell a new generation, even though that may be one of the outlying results here." This would be true IF a term like 'backwards compatability' didn't exist.
Say waaaaah? I freaking love jak and daxter, they arent gonna add new stuff to it! It looks awesome , cant wait for it to release here in aus
